Merry Christmas, we have good friends here in the states that are from Scotland.  They were saying that instead of wraping presents people there take everything out of the packing to place under the tree.  Is that true?

Oh god I would hope not!  The unwrapping of the gifts is the best part!  I remember one Christmas when I was little and my parents didn't wrap anything.  They took everything out of the boxes and set it up under the tree.  It was nice getting the toys, but Christmas seemed to be over almost instantly.  That was the worst Christmas ever.  :'(

I'll have to ask them again, maybe I misunderstood what they were talking about.  That would take all the fun out of it.

My brother-in-law is Scotish and his family definately wrapped their presents.  One thing I seem to remember him saying is that they don't put up Christmas lights until Christmas eve, in America we put them up shortly after Thanksgiving (end of November).

Merry Christmas all from another from Scotland! Having a break at work for breakfast, just preparing myself for a busy afternoon.  ;D

Not sure what other's do but mine go up 1st of december every year.  ;)

Have a good day everyone and think about us poor lot that are working (Which in itself is not too bad considering im on x3 time!)

Regards.

a lesser man might mention that its something to do with them not wanting to pay for the electricity but not me :D

traditionally youre only supposed to put the christmas stuff up christmas eve for the twelve days of christmas.where this stems from i dont know, but it could be a german thing.

im guilty as others of starting one in the main forum but shouldnt these threads be in PnR ;D
got COLOR codes from projects, post them here

Ya, thats what he said everyone in his home town (Glasgow) always did, although I wouldn't be surprised if he just made it up as an excuse for not putting up the lights when everyone else did.

I heard that as a kid from somewhere, too.

But then maybe it was just me wanting the lights & tree to stay up from another 11 days after christmas day. ;D  Most people take all of that down the next day/weekend.  And "forces" like curbside tree pick being only on the week after has prevented me from ever having my tree still up on the 12th day.  People think I'm weird to actually want the decorations still up even 2 days after (and think I'm dog lazy for not taking them down by the first weekend).  Sure I'm lazy, but that's not why I'm leaving 'em up. ;)
