Since myself and everyone in my immediate family are adults now, we tend to have our "Christmas" on Christmas Eve instead.  (Though my niece will still get a visit from Santa tonight and have presents in the morning).  So we did our present opening today.  My parents and family got me a lot of stuff for my house which I needed so I'm very thankfull for all of that.  For power tools, I got a pretty powerful cordless drill that will work great with the spade bits I already have for drilling holes in my CP.  I didn't get the router I was hoping for, so I'll have to head out to Home Depot the day after Christmas and get myself a good plunge router and a few bits.

The best part of today, however, was watching my 21 month old niece opening up the gifts that I got for her.  She was so happy with the baby doll I bought and the play kitchen set.  It's really heart warming to hear "Thank you Uncle Justin".  Makes me feel very old, but there's nothing like seeing the joy on her face as she opened everything up.  She was holding onto that doll with all her might the rest of the day.   ;D

Otherwise Christmas went pretty well.  Tomorrow i head over to my sister's house to have Christmas dinner there with the family and my brother in law's family.  Should be a busy place.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!

Merry Christmas everyone.  I've got the traditional "Christmas Story" with Ralphie playing on the TV as my five year old is running around the house like a madwoman.  My 5 month old is fast to sleep with no clue why we have a large lighted tree in the house.

Merry Christmas all!  And don't forget that it is also the birth of Christ.

Funny and heart warming story related to that topic:  I spoke with my sister in Florida long distance yesterday (I'm in New York) and she said that my little niece (3 years old) was planning on having a small cupcake with a candle in it to Celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus.  After deciding to do this and preparing the "special cupcake" on a plate she thought long and hard for a minute and then innocently asked, "If it's Jesus' birthday... they howcome I'm getting presents?"    :laugh2:

My sister then explained as best she could to a 3 year old that although it was Jesus' birthday, Christmas was also about the spirit of giving and that's where Santa comes in.  Satisfied she exclaimed, "Oh! OK!" and ran off.

Ha ha ha!  How cute is that? :D

Is that the one with the "Red Rider" air rifle? Great movie that even made it over the ocean to us in Germany back in the days. Love this film!

I am not feeling much like celebrating christmas, as my parents left to celebrate christmas with my grand-aunt in Belgium. Nothing I complain about, since I am pretty much old enough to celebrate christmas myself, even though I might be single. Yet, it doesn't feel like christmas since I lost my job some months ago and still haven't found a new one. I was hoping for a certain company I have had a job interview at last week to call me before the holidays and tell me I'm hired - but they didn't do yet and now the most overwhelming feeling is sadness, since I only have time till the last of january to find a new job... *sigh*

But well, guess I should do something to keep my courage up. So I will work on my marquee...

I kind of understand that feeling.  I recently moved out of my parents' place and into my own home.  While it feels good having my own house, it really is kind of depressing around the holidays.  (I too am quite single).  The thing is, the feeling of sadness and depression is pretty common amongst people around the holidays.  You just need to find something that keeps you hapy and makes you feel good.  For me, it was watching my nearly 2 year old niece get so excited to open all the presents and see the family.  That, and the fact that this week I get to work on my cabinet some more.  ;D

Merry Christmas to everyone.

Had the family over yesterday and my brother and I played some TMNT, Rolling Thunder, etc.  Was a good time.

Today I went out and 'finished' what Santa wasn't able to.   ;) ;D  I first stopped at the post office to drop off some bills (I still can't believe there are some companies that don't have an online bill payment service.    ), then I went to Home Depot to take a look at some things.

I bought a small little level that I've attached to my power drill to ensure I'm drilling down properly level.  (Amazing that this thing has a built in level for when you're drilling horizontally, but not vertically).  I also picked up some wood clamps so I can clamp a straight edge to my plywood that I plan on cutting today.

I was looking at the routers and having a tough time deciding.  I eventually spent the $199 on a router (forgot the horsepower, but it was pretty good) that also had a plunge base to go with the fixed base.  It has some vacuum cleaner attachments to suck up the dust for "dust-free operation", and a pretty nice carrying case.  The best part is that I was also able to get a jigsaw free due to the purchase.  It's a cheap $30 equivalant jigsaw, but it can do up to a 45 degree bevel cut and it should do the job of just making straight cuts for me.

I hope to test out everything tonight and get the rough outline of my CP cut out and also have my joystick areas recessed and buttons drilled out.  I still need to await my trackball and spinner to get those cut out.

I have some mild trepidation before I start, but that's why I'm having a friend come over to lend a hand and help me out as I get started.  I've honestly never used a power tool before aside from the power drill.

Wish me luck!!!   ;D
