Arcade Cabinet and Marquees (which marquee to choose)
« on: December 24, 2007, 10:10:58 am »
Hello.  I am having difficulties choosing between a couple of marquees.  They both have their positives and negatives about them.  First is the game station marquee.  This marquee is very nicely made, but not sure if I like the chain linked fence design in the background.

The second marquee is the mame marquee with manufacturer logos and fighting characters on it.  I really like this marquee but the down side is that there are characters in the background that might look better with color and not greyed out with the background.  Your opinion is welcome here.

Can I ask that if/when anyone has time, please see what they can do with the attached PNG files and see if they can't fix this for me as to remove the chain linked fence in the game station marquee and possibly bring out the color in the characters on the mame marquee with manufacturer logos?

I have a conglomerate of fighting characters airbrushed on my arcade cabinet at the moment.  Thanks for my uncle.  He does great air brush work.  He was rated as giving the best air brush work next to the guy that paints semi's on the show "trick my truck".  Jimmy's web can be viewed at www.art-rigs.com.  He truely does some amazing work.  I have the necessary files with my arcade pics, marquees and the airbrush artwork attached.  Both marquees are giving me fits.  Can someone perform their magic and see if they can't help me out with either or both marquees?  Thanks for all your help.  Thanks, Shane

Those marquees are too small. If you print at that size they will look awful. You'd be better off redrawing the whole thing or making a custom marquee of your own. Considering you have hand airbrushed art on the cab. Loving it by the way. It would be crazy to put some bog standard blocky SF pics on it! If you want full size custom artwork, which your post seems to be asking for, you should just ask one of the many people on this board that produce custom art.
When pixelated clipart just wont do, just call for Betty

Thanks.  I pulled the marquee pictures off of a website months back.  Can't find them at the moment but I am sure they have better sizing on these marquees.  I have been playing around with them in Photoshop for awhile so I am sure I messed up on the size somewhere.   I am going to try to find the original's again.  If anyone is interested in creating a custom marquee for me, the pictures of my cab are above and your help would be greatly appreciated.  At this point, I am not going to be that picky, just want to get something on the cab to give it the arcade feel that the cab deserves.  Thanks for the update.  Thanks, Shane

Just my $.02, but anything other than an original airbrushed marquee would take away from the rest of the cabinet.

Well, I thought about that a couple days ago but was not sure how airbrushed art work would look like on plexi glass.  I am sure he could do it.  Airbrushing the picture backwards might be tricky.  My guess is if I was to get the plexi airbrushed, I would want to get the picture done on the inside of the plexi.  Am I correct?

Any takers on tinkering with a marquee design that matches the arcade air brush work are welcome.  If someone can come up with a marquee design, I will more than likely use the marquee printout until the air brush can be completed by my relative from your design onto the plexi.  If anyone is interested, please post...

I also wanted to ask and see if anyone could name all the characters on both sides of the arcade cabinet as well as the control panel with notation as to if they are a street fighter character, capcom character, mortal kombat, etc...  This could be fun...  Thanks,

Great looking machine slsimon! Love the airbrushing

I just wanted to comment your post about the marquee. Don't get the plexi glass airbrushed directly. Airbrush onto paper (or whatever material is normal for airbrushing) then get that printed onto translucent film.

I agree you really need to keep with the airbrush style and go with the airbrushed marquee. Looks bloody great BTW! Wish I had an uncle with those skills. You can check out the link to my Soul Calibur webpage for more info on the material I used for my marquee.

Thanks for the replys guys.  Glad everyone likes the brush work.  Yeah, a airbrushed marquee would fit for this cabinet since the rest of the artwork is brushed.  Well, I have no clue what type of material I would need to buy as to put airbrush work on it.  Can someone provide a link for me?

Also, can a design be created from a BYOAC member that will blend in with the current artwork?  The theme seems to be more of a fighting theme.  Maybe incorporate an arcade name of some sort into the marquee with some character/background design.

In case everyone is wondering why the drilled hole in the side, I have a touchscreen panel that I will be mounting on the side that will be used specifically for MP3/Jukebox feedback.  Well, as usual any help would be appreciated..  Thanks a bunch and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Could you not airbrush on the front of the plexi then put a another plexi on the front of it? would look great with airbrushed marquee to match the rest of that sweet looking cab
