Nice picture of a coin door?
« on: December 31, 2007, 01:38:58 pm »
Doesn anyone have a nice picture of a coin door?  I am making a model of a Galaga, and was thinking it would be nice to print out a sticker of a small coin door to make it look more complete, but all of the images I have found don't look so hot.

I know Randy made a "Unreal Coin Door" sticker from a door he modeled in a program (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=89&products_id=308), was wondering if anyone has modeled a door like that and released the file.

If you go to google Sketchup you can look at their warehouse of 3D images for "arcade" and find many that have coin doors.  The actual detail is dependant on the model submitted but you might be able to find something you like.

Edit:  If you type in coin door there is a 3d model of a Happs

That's the rough model I did for my project mock. You're more than welcome to do what you will with it, but I would not consider it print worthy...

I'd suggest you contact csa3d and see if he'd be willing to export the rendering he did for his Galaxian project. Also, you might send a message to Neilyboy and see if he's got a good flat-front pic from his resto project.

I would also like to print my own coin door pic, but was wondering where can I get some nice clear vinyl labels?  I went to my local office supply store and the big brand ones in the package aren't that good of a quality.

Anyone know where to get blank ones?  8.5 x 11 would be perfect for my color printer at home!

Thanks

Here is what I did,

I had a professional Photographer take a picture of my Midway Coin Door.

The Coin door itself is in good shape with just a little bit of rust on the buttons, etc.  I cleaned it up about as good as I could, and you can see a few of the imperfections in the picture, but I think it adds character!

I then took the HQ image to my local print shop, and I had three laminate options;
    1.  Photo paper, hot roll laminate, no adhesive.  Great quality, and ultimately the option I went with.
    2.  Plain paper with a self stick back side laminate.  Nice, but the image did not have a very consistent black to it.
    3.  Photo paper with a self stick laminate.  Better, but the photo paper caused bubbles in the laminate when it went thru the machine.

I wanted the hot roll laminate, but they do not offer that with self stick. :-[

The image itself is 9 3/4" wide by 8" tall, so it is a little smaller than the original coin door, but that is what I ultimately wanted.

What do you think?

that looks cool, do you mind sharing the actual pic of the coin door you have?  I don't need it very big (since it's just going to be printed for a small cab, but that looks pretty much exactly what I'm after...).

I finally got around to sizing and printing this, but the file you gave me was a little too small, and since you weren't online (and this was the last thing I did before going to the print shop and getting everything printed), I just found a door on google and tried to edit the best I could.

Thanks for being willing to share, your image was FAR superior to the one I ended up with, but I was itching to get the project done, so I just ended up with an adequate coin door pic.  I haven't taken pics of the finished project yet, but when I do, I'll post here so people can see how it turned out.

Thanks again to everyone who helped with this, this is a great community.

I just updated the project thread on this:  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=68524.0

As you can see, the coin door looks ok, but not the greatest.  I'm happy with it though.
