LEDWiz LED light not lighting up
« on: December 16, 2007, 11:18:43 am »
I am powering the LEDWiz (32 port) from a spare power supply I had lying around using the red(5v) and black(gnd) wires.    I wired up one blue LED light for testing purposes only to make sure I know what I am doing before soldering all my other ones.  Anyway, nothing happens ..... the LED light does not light up at all .... any ideas on how to test the LEDWiz lights?

BTW: I am not using a frontend to interact with the LEDWiz at all so I just want to know how to test the LED lights.

I attached a picture showing the power supply wires and LED wires connected to the LEDWiz along with the wiring going to the LED light.   I also have the USB cable connected to my computer.   When plugging in the USB cable to my computer, the new hardware was recognized.

Will you please confirm everything looks to be wired correctly in my picture.    If it looks good, then does anyone have any ideas of what to do to get this LED light lit up? Is it possible the LED light is bad?

Oh yeah, I also brought up the Lumin Audio_WIP software but could not make any sense of it yet .... I will keep playing around and see what happens.  Does this have to be installed to the "C:\LuminAudio_WIP" directory only or can I put the software in another location?

Any help would be much appreciated.

PS:  The resistor which was supplied with the LED light is attached to the small wire from the LED light.

It's been awhile since I installed mine but I am not using external power.  To test you need to use the supplied software, open Ledwiz87.exe then right click the icon that opens on the toolbar.  Select Open panel and when the application comes up select LumAura Control.

In the second picture there is a green circle for each of the 32 ports on the Led Wiz.  If your led is in port 1 and you select it, your led will light up if everything is hooked up properly.

I would suggest not using external power at first and sticking strictly with USB, then hook one lead from your led into port one and the other into the USB 5V Output.  Then test away, I used GGG RGB led's as they were pretty much plug and play and I didn't have to mess with resistors as they were already installed.

As far as the software, to test you can run it straight from the zip file if you want, it doesn't matter where it is.  The LumAura software is stand alone.

Ok, I just realized I had to download the LEDWiz main software from the site.  I thought all I needed was the LuminAudio_WIP software only.    Anyway, I downloaded the main software and was able to light up my LED light now by clicking on the correct numbered circle related to the port my LED light was connected.

I do not have a clue what I need to do to get my LED light to dance to the music so perhaps someone can tell me this now ......
