Trackball.... Atari? Happs?
« on: December 02, 2007, 05:00:50 am »
I'm currently making up a shopping list of all the parts I need for my 2 player CP project. I've decided on a "3 Inch HighBall" trackball unit. These are sold by the RealBobRoberts for $80 but are listed as Atari with Happs "Y" harness. Is this the exact same unit as the one sold by Andy at Ultimarc?

The reason I ask is because I will be buying leaf switches and buttons from BobRoberts but the cost of this trackball unit is almost half the price from him. (Due to current pound/dollar conversion rate). Of course I have to factor in shipping.

But I definitely don't want to skimp on quality. If the one Andy sells is much better quality then I will get that. But if the units are identical then I may as well order from BobRoberts with the leaf buttons and save some money.

You might want to get quotes from Divemaster and Ponyboy.
They both sell the Happ stuff at a considerable discount.

The shipping from Ultimarc gets more reasonable as you buy more.
They have a $12 base price, but they cap your cost on it.
If you order a huge order the shipping is nothing from them.

Bob Robert's shipping has always been very reasonable when I've ordered from him.
I don't think he has any markup on his shipping.
He boxes your order up, weighs it, and then posts it when your check arrives.

Sorry I can't help you on the "which one has higher quality".
All the trackballs I've owned have been Happs, and I've always been completely satisfied with them, so I haven't ever ordered one from Ultimarc.
That said, everything that I HAVE ordered from Ultimarc has been top-notch, so I wouldn't expect that you'd be disappointed with his trackballs.

Not sure, but looks like they are exactly the same.

(Except on BobRoberts I could only find:
"Replacement 3" High-Ball TB Unit" which I think is the same, and
"Atari Replacement TB Units Midi 3" complete w *Y* harness by Happ" which is not the highball model.)
