Happ's Trackballs With PC Golf Games???
« on: May 09, 2003, 11:20:24 am »
I'm in the "planning" stage of a gaming PC / Cabinet. Right now I plan on building a massive double-sided unit. One side will be more like a computer desk, so I can comfortably play RTS games and use my PC for PhotoShop and the what not. The other side will be a stand up arcade cabinet, hopefully four player design for the more modern games. First and foremost I'm a golf fan and want to build the arcade side around PC golf games. This brings me to my questions:

Has anyone used Happ's trackballs for Links 2003, Tiger Woods 2003, and/or PC Golden Tee? How good does it play? Are you using the Golden Tee or the standard version trackball?

I realize that Tiger Woods and Links don't play the same as Golden Tee. In TW and Links, the smoother you swing the better, so I'm not really sure how well the trackball will play using Real Time Swing.

Thanks!!! ;D

Links is terriblwe on a cabinet.  you have to hold the mouse button to swing which is terrible.  Golden T pc i have heard is excellent.  If it is anythign like the arcade game it should be.  I have been waiting to get it for soem time now.  too lazy to buy it.

Why do you have to hold the mouse button to swing in Links? With RTS all you do is press the mouse button once (or the 0/ins key) and then draw the mouse straight back then straight forward? I don't see why using a trackball would make you hold the button down the whole time...unless you're using Power Stroke swing instead of RTS.

I recently installed a trackball on my work in progress cp and for Golden Tee PC it is just like the arcade game :) I don't know about the other games though.

I posted another thread on this... Tiger Woods 2002/2003 feels more like an arcade game than a PC game on a cabinet; the only problem is that it's a bit too easy to hit long and straight.  PGA Championship Golf 2000 (Sierra) plays more arcade (in style, not gameplay level) than Links, but still has the tougher simulation elements. Best of all, the downloadable demo plays a full 18 holes, so you can add a full single-course game to your cabinet for free!  (The full version comes with 32 courses.)
