Question about the Ultimarc 360 (Yes another one)
« on: October 26, 2007, 10:40:08 am »
I really want to replace my stinky 8 ways for analog sticks.     First and foremost... I don't use MAME that much with my cabinet.  I mostly use console emulators and PC Games.   My questions are the following.

1.  If I use the Input mode for the buttons.. it only supports 8 buttons.  Therefor, the other buttons will have to go through the IPAC, which seems useless, since I don't think I can select using both the keyboard and a joystick per player.

2. If I don't use the Input mode for the buttons I run into the same problem.  Especially with PC Games.

The only solution I can think of is if there is a application out there like PPJoy (PPKey specifically) that will allow keystrokes to emulate buttons.   But, I think PPJoy will only emulate buttons on a Virtual Joystick it has created....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I use 4 * U360's with MAME, NES, SNES and N64.  It's fine.  Project 64 is the only emu that I use that really benefits from having  42 thousand buttons on each controller.  I use the IPAC for start,L/R.  It works fine.

The new xpadder version is going to support creating "virtual" gamepad devices in Windows .. and mapping to them.  I would imagine they'll have support for mapping an IPAC (i.e. keyboard input) and a U360 (gamepad) together into one device.

Get the U360s, you will not be disappointed.  And get the stiffer springs to go with them.

I like my U360's. They work awesome. Except that the stronger spring, doesn't seem strong enough. At least for me.

The throw distance is longer as well. But it's expected since it also does analog. You can get a restrictor for it and it shortens the throw distance including analog but has something to compensate for it. I never got those so  can't comment on how they feel.

The U360s also have a shift mode now so you can have more than 8 buttons attached to them.

True but shift buttons aren't meant for regular use since you need to hold down another button to use them. Instead they're more suited for accessing menu and setup options.

Indeed, you are right.  Could you hook a button up to the regular connection *and* the shift?  Probably not...

I did order 2 of them both with the hard spring.   I did figure out a way to be able to keep my 8 ways and just add the U360's.   So, I think I should be golden.
