« on: October 18, 2007, 02:34:14 pm »
Could anyone with a Sanwa ball top measure the diamater of the ball? Im going to CNC turn some clear ball tops and I need to know what size bar to purchase. Thanks.

There are more than one size. I have a smaller one to match my DK stick, but there are bigger ones too.

Edit: I think standard is 35mm and the smaller is 30mm though.

I was looking for something exactly like this.  Any chance you could turn a couple extra and I could buy them from you?

No problem, Im going to order some extra bar anyway. What diameter do you want?  If anyone else wants any let me know.

Im also going to make some stainless steel shafts with a hole in the middle to feed some wires for an LED, give me a shout if anyone wants any of those too.

You're going to make them? Don't they already have some that hold an LED at the shaft?

I couldnt tell you tbh, ive been out of the scene for a year or two before deciding to build another cab.

Im going to make some for me anyway because a) I need longer shafts for mine as I need to mount my Sanwas below my CP (long story) and b) because they will be cheaper than me buying some.

Sounds like you and I had the same thing in mind.  I was actually planning on taking some shafts to a machinist to have them drilled out.  I'll just get some from you if you don't mind.

As far as the the ball tops, I was thinking 35mm.

I don't think they have them for the sanwas?

Just to clarify, which of the sanwa sticks will this be for.  The JLF-TP and the JLW-TM have smaller shafts than the JLW-UM.
I am hoping it's for the JLW-UM.

I havent decided which Sanwas to get yet  but I can make some for you for either diameter. Being Japanese they should be metric so as long as you can measure the OD of the thread and the thread length then I can make some.

Hey Timoe, its been a while buddy! (or rather ive been away a while!)

No problem mate, im going to get my Sanwas this week and then I can get a program, etc sorted for the shafts

As for the balls, does anyone know which plastic to use? Im guessing that if they are clear then they are not going to light particually well as there wont be much for the light to refract off apart from the thread etc. I have seen some really nice lit ball tops. Any idea how they do this? Is it a case of a special plastic or is it frosted etc?

Im also going to be doing some more stainless dust washers soon too if anyone is interested. Ill get some new designs up this week.

Wow, thankyou!

I had been looking for some ball tops just like that but I couldnt find any.

I was pricing up some cast acrylic to machine but I was looking at a minimum order of 1m which is about £50 ($100) and would be far too much for just making a few balltops.

$4 a pice from lizard lick is much better.  :) The bubbles should refract the light from the LEDs nicely too  8)

Ill still need to make some hollow shafts to house the LEDs and wiring but thats a great help, thanks again

you're welcome! :) so are you making these for the JLF or the JLW?  or are they interchangable?

I'm not sure if they are interchangeable to be honest as I haven't purchased my sticks yet. I'm sure I could make them for either though if I have the dimensions.

You may be able to help me in my joystick choice actually. What is the difference between the JLF and JLW? From what I can see the only difference is they have a different mounting plate and the JLF has a wiring harness whereas the JLF has the standard individual microswitch setup, is this correct? Is there any other differences between the two sticks?

According to the lizardlick site both sticks are 4/8way changeable. Can you change them from the top similar to the Ultimarc T-sticks or do you have to change a restrictor plate from the bottom?

honestly I dont have either stick and was trying to decide myself :)  The JLW you can simple rotate the restrictor from the bottom.  The JLF is switchable too but I think its not as easily done..  Im building a 4 player panel so I might buy one JLF for player one and the rest JWF.  I heard that the JLF are better for fighting games and the JWF is better than the J:F for 4-way games when in 4way more
