Why would they use knockoff buttons, but Cherry microswitches? ;) ;)

Dream Arcades doesn't use cheap anything. If you have a problem with something your purchased from us, just e-mail support, we'll take care of it, even if it is out of warranty.

We do use Chinese Microswitches. However, they are the best quality Chinese microswitches available. I go to China and QA every shipment myself.

If you really want Cherry band switches we sell them for ten cents more.

Ive built 3 CP's thus far using the dream arcades joysticks and buttons.
I have not had any problem what so ever.
What kind of problems are you seeing, mrclean?

So you save ~$1.50 per cab by using cheap knockoffs?

No, the customer has a choice.  They either save $1.50 or can choose to get the cherry's.

Serious question:  If Cherry's are $.10 more each...why don't you just populate your CP's with Cherry switches to prevent posts like this?  How many buttons...lets see...6 x 2 plus Player 1 and 2 start and perhaps credit switches...lets say even 20 buttons...that is $2.00 more TOTAL to put Cherry switches stock...why oh why even mess with anything else for a $2.00 savings.  A single post such as this is EASILY more than $2.00 worth of bad publicity.   I never quite understood why companies (not just  yours) skimps on the most absurd things...

$2.00 more and this post would have never happened...think about it.

Well I imagine that the margin is much higher than 10 cents per microswitch... that's just how much difference they charge on the cherries... It's not just a $2 difference, at least I assume, to make it worth the trouble (travel for QA, etc)

Looks like a cool company with cool products to me.

I had a big long post but its not even worth it. my understanding was dream arcade pride themselves on bringing back the experience of the arcade. how can you do that when your shaving costs on one of the most important parts of the machine wich is the feel of the controls.

Well said. ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- controls = a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- gaming experience.

For the sake of $2   :laugh2:  your customers don't need that option.

What joysticks are on those machines?

I'm going to try to reply to everyone's questions/concerns. But I don't want to get in a flame war, so that will probably be all you hear from me on this.

First, Thanks to "DAOld man" or anyone else who stands up for our products. Just because something is Made in China doesn't mean it's cheap quality. In fact, Happs has moved some if its manufacturing over to China. And most of Ultimarc's stuff is made somewhere in Asia. Both these companies have strong reputations for quality, as I hope Dream Arcades does.

I really do go to China for QA, you have to in order to ensure the best quality. As a matter of fact I am there now. It's about 6am, I just flew in last night.

I've visited tons of factories here and selected the ones with the best quality, then I ask them to make changes and improvements as required. So most of our products are OEM.

We do stand behind our products, so if you have a problem just e-mail support. I can't promise we'll replace anything no matter how old. However, if you had a run of bad microswitches, which rarely happens, we'll replace them.

I can't tell you how many times I've had customers come to our shop and play one of our systems and say, wow you use Happs parts. It's really hard to tell the difference.

Still, I know some people have brand loyalty, and that's fine. Cherry switches really are nice, they just cost a lot, more than the ten cents we charge.

Lastly, we try to buy stuff that is Made in the USA, when we can. All of our kits are made in the USA. But sometimes the cost difference is insane, say 300%.

I hope I haven't offended anyone.

Just my .02 worth...  I live near DreamArcade's physical shop, and have gone in there several times to buy parts.  I've always found the parts to be of good quality and have never had any problems with any of it, and the owners/operators have been NOTHING but helpful every time I have contacted them or gone in.  I wouldn't hesitate to go in there to get whatever they carry that I may need...
