**** UPDATE - SOLVED (mising a pastic sleeve piece) ****

I am swapping the short shafts with the longer ones, but I am a bit puzzled

the longer shafts seem to be longer "on the wrong side" ... by this I mean that instead of the "top" being longer, it's the under/inside part that is longer. This means that (again, it "seems") the magnet is hitting the PCB instead of "levitate" above it...

What is this about?

YES I am reading this page carefully:

phone pic to illustrate ... see how the loger shaft is longer under the CP, not above (it seems to me) See where the lip/bump is positioned on the shaft. Do I need to slide an additional round sleeve piece to pull the shaft up? right now there is so much space below, the spring doesn't get loaded at all -until I assemble it back with the PCB (where it gets "squished")

(thx in advance)

I've also been looking at the U360, and from what I remember reading the longer shafts are for 3/4" MDF while the shorter shafts are for sheet metal control panels.

So it makes sense that it is longer under the control panel. I think.

I know they are for 3/4",that's what my CP is made with (plywood in my case, Birch). This is why I bought them :)

but even then. By "longer under the CP" I mean longer INSIDE THE JOYSTICK

if that makes more sense

look at the pics. Instead of the stick being longer outside the U360, it's the part under the lip (thinner part of the shaft) that is longer.

I am using the long shaft in my U360 and I don't recall there being any type of issue swapping it out.  Just be sure to keep everything in order (the clip, spring, etc.) and everything should line up.

thanks for replying! Your projects rock :)

is there an exploded view of all the components somewhere online by any chance?

Do you see what I mean by the inside part of the shaft being longer?

When I assemble the U360 stick with the longer shaft like the other (untouched/regular) U360, the magnet hits the bottom PCB.

At least could someone confirm that this is how the longer shaft is shaped / looks?

I WAS RIGHT!

Look on the Ultimarcwebsite:

(longer shaft for oval top)

http://www.ultimarc.com/JShopServer/section.php?xSec=10

See the black plastic "sleeve"?
JUST as I expected/thought it was missing

I need ot double check throughout the 2 packages Divemaster127 sent - maybe it is just missing

PHEW! I thought I was going to go crazy

Sorry to hijack,

So the longer shaft is for flush mounting the metal plate to the under side of the 3/4" wood?  I'm ordering some soon is why I ask.  Thanks!

csa,

Yes. Alternatively, you can use a router to remove some wood, mount the stick in the recess, and use the regular shaft with a wood CP. This is what I did. If you like your joystick up high, you might even rout the wood and use a long shaft.

Correct

BTW ... THE U360 ROCKS ... WOW .... I love it...

It *is* a different feel compared to regular arcade sticks, but I even love how SOFT/SMOOTH the regular spring feels, and even the long throw (not THAT long compared to what I read people's posts about it) without restrictors. I don't want it harder to move, nor do I want restricted / shorter ... NICE NICE NICE

Last night, I played Ms Pac Man in true 4 way joystick feel (OK no restrictors ... but still!) ... soooo nice... night and day compared to the previous one I was using (x-arcade / 8 ways).

Oh and OF COURSE I use the FANTASTIC fatfingers plug-in with MaLa and the on-the-fly programming of the sticks is amazing

thank you Andy! You rock... OMG I looove this U360 stick... AS-IS! no restrictors or different spring... Great product design.

FYI Divemaster127 who I ordered from is sending me the sleeves.
Check out my project thread! I just spent last night on my CP (posted pics)... The short shafts are fine for now while connecting/testing.

Does there exist some sort of screw/bolt that can hold it down without also sticking up?
