Getting "Enter" button to work in MAME with ipaq/jpac
« on: August 14, 2007, 04:28:20 pm »
I have an ipaq-4 which did this same problem to me and fixed itself automatically somehow, I have a JPAC I just hooked up a new cab everythings perfect all buttons perfect, I have a button for "enter" works fine in windows, works fine in gameex, all I want it for is when I push TAB in MAME to hit ENTER so I can change controls, it will not work in MAME, in or out of gameex.

Question 1:

Why?

Question 2: using mame32 can I customize what it views as "enter" to a different Key such as "T" so  I dont have to deal with this.

The ipac 4 has the enter programmed into its default keys.   A jpac is more like a regular ipac since it has less inputs it has enter assigned as a shifted key.    What key are you using for enter that works under windows but not mame?   What is your enter programmed to?

I found the reason why is because if I assign my button to "enter" in the Winipac software it automatically assigns it as NUM ENTER even if you hit regular enter, well mame if using a regular keyboard does not recognize the Numberpads enter on "enter' so I do not know how to tell Winipac to say Enter and not num enter

maybe not what you had in mind, but on my setup, when i hit tab to change the controls, enter doesnt work to make selections either.  Instead, mame seems to be setup to use P1 button 1 instead of enter, which seems pretty intuitive once you use it a few times.

Perhaps somethings wrong with your keyboard cause I don't get that problem. enter works perfectly for me.

I have to agree with efjayel.  I programmed an enter key in my ipac and it works fine for the entry of items from the tab menu in mame.
