Score! Wife likes Bust-a-move!
« on: May 02, 2007, 12:54:36 pm »
I've gotten nothing but rolled eyes and even a few stern words about paying bills for the past two months.  But now with this simple $30 MVS cart I have her hooked.   >:D

We've played every night since it came in the mail.

Boy do I love that game now...She now likes (to a degree) my hobby.
(Actually I like the game anyway it's just a bonus that she wants to play all the time.)

Now I just need to find room for a four player cab! (Just don't tell her that...ok)  ;)

 :laugh2:

We'll have to see what she thinks of Magical Drop II.

Games that my wife bugs me to play with her:

-Puzzle Bobble (and all its variants)
-Puyo Puyo
-Magical Drop
-Columns
-TMNT (and all other 4-player beat 'em ups like the Simpsons, etc.)
-Sunset Riders
-Bubble Bobble
-Rampage
-Any light gun games

There are a lot of games she'll play alone, but the ones listed above she's always pulling me over to the cabinet to play with her.

What are other games that meet the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor)?

Two non-MAME games that come to mind:
Feeding Frenzy
Luxor (Puzzloop ripoff)

Yeah, Puzz Loop/ Zuma and the oodles of clones pretty much meet the WAF requirements, but, for me, nothing beats Puzz Loop with spinners, since a spinner is so perfect a controller for the turret.

My wife likes Galaga, Frogger and Donkey Kong - and Bust-a-move, of course.

my best memories of playing the arcade was a couple of thanksgivings ago,
when my wife and i played bubble bobble to the last level. it probally took
over 100 dollars in credits and a couple of hours, but we did it.

try bubble bobble. its a fun game especially with two players.
you play as a team instead of opponents which the wife
really seemed to enjoy.

 - the worst experience was playing 'you dont know jack'
she still hates me for winning.

Yep, Puzzle Bobble is my wife's favorite too. In fact, most females seem to love it. It's the first game I show them. A female friend of my wife likes to play Ms.Pac Man when she's here.

Puzz loop, indeed another one my wife plays, but I've got no spinner yet so it's a nightmare to play...

I've read that Centipede also scored well with women, but I don't really understand why. Apart from the fact that it was the first game (co)created by a woman, which most playing women obviously know nothing about.....

And they always insist on Ms. Pacman even though the only difference they notice is the bow on her head.

My wife loves Gauntlet - been playing some variant of it with her since the original  NES. In fac, that was a date night for us back in our poorer, younger days!  Don't have it running on a Mame cab yet - thats my next project.

Puzzle games and rhythm games (on consoles) are usually the ones my wife gets into.

If you like Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble, check out Puzzle de Pon on MVS too. Pretty much the same thing as Bust-A-Move, but you have to break shapes free of the bubbles. I'd call it a clone, but it was developed by Taito too. While my wife never got into them too much, Pop N Pop and Landmaker are other fun Taito puzzle games. As weird as it sounds, Pop N Pop is like a combination of Bust-A-Move and Space Invaders.

Also, Uo Poko is a great puzzle game.

My biggest battle is to get her to stand at the MAME cabinet for any time. I finally put MAME on the XBox to fix that hurdle.
Brevity is not my strong suit.

It wasn't in the arcades, it's on PC/XBox Live Arcade/iPod etc. See here:

My wife and I ocassionally resolve disputes with a game of Money Puzzle Exhanger.  Loser of best of 5 has to wash the dishes.  She also likes trying to kill me in Mario Bros.

My wife thought my first MAME machine was stupid until she saw she could play Ms Pac-Mac.  Now, I think she does finds it mildly annoying

I don't really see "mildly annoying" as an improvement over "stupid." Try showing her some of the games recommended by the other posters. She might like them.
