gettin a bad case of alzheimers
« on: May 02, 2007, 01:01:16 am »
Hello,

It has been nearly a year since I started on my cab and right now it is used as a fancy TV holder. Now that I am getting ready to finally finish the thing, I find myself at a loss of alot of knowledge.

What I really want to know is...

What are those things that hold the marquee and plexi in place?  Brackets?  Where can I find some cheap?  I had actually purchased some from E-bay last year but lost them.  I did a search and found nothing so I am obviously searching for the wrong thing.

Help!  :dizzy:

I used white ceiling grid retainers that I painted (badly) black.   Cutting the fronts of them down so the marquee's top and bottom aren't hidden is next on the "TO DO" list.

EDIT: Bad picture due but the best I could do right now.

Oh yeah, I had to "stomp" on the top one to widen the inside angle.

Thanks for the replies.

Dave, thanks for the picture, I'll see if I can find some of these grid retainers locally.  I'd rather not order from Happ due to the minimum order and shipping costs.

Cheers!

I think they're generally referred to as "marquee retainer brackets". Pretty much every cab used different ones, but there are some generic ones out there. Out of my two cabinets, only one uses a bracket (the Atari one). The other uses a routed out edge to hold the plexi. Works quite well.

If you have the Happ part number, you might check with Ponyboy or Divemaster over in the B/S/T forum. They can probably get it for you and it usually costs less than ordering directly from Happ.

Using the drop ceiling rails is a good idea. I'll have to remember that for the future.
Brevity is not my strong suit.

I got my retainers from divemaster127 here, for .15 an inch.  No promise if thats his current price, this was a year or so ago...
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???
