2 cocktail MAME cabinets for sale
« on: April 09, 2007, 03:45:29 pm »
I have 2 cabinets I would like to sale without going through ebay if possible. These are both PC based, running LInux, and are both great fun. Unfortunately I need the money to help finish out our shop and these have to go! If anyone is intersted please let me know. They are located in central Arkansas and can be delivered in the local area for a small fee or crated and shipped to your address in the US.

These are both high quality pieces. You will not be disappointed in the sturdiness of these cabinets.

Here is a link to more pics and some more info.
monstercabinets.com/4sale

I will add pics if needed.

Thanks!

Yikes. Are those prices on that website the prices you actually want?

They are both nice looking cabinets.  What is the speed of the computer running them?  I assume they are both using PC monitors (which kills it for me...even if I WERE local)?   While I am sure you have $1,200 and $1,400 or more invested in them,  you are likely going to have to EBAY em...and if you do,  make sure you mention that no ROMS are included or they will flag those auctions off in a heartbeat.

You have to start somewhere. And a quality cabinet is not cheap to build. The glass on these alone costs $100. The clips $16, artwork $25 and a 1" sheet of plywood is $65. So you are at $150 already and that is just the top of the cabinet. Sure you can use lexan or non tempered glass but if you want something that will last you can't skimp. While these are comparable in price to others you can find on ebay or the net I guarantee they are made much more durable. Good luck!

Just curious, where did you get your glass clips for $16?

They are both 1GHz pentium 3s running Linux. They are PC monitors. There were 8 total cabinets built with these and of those half were PC monitors and half were Arcade monitors. Honestly I do not see why people think a PC monitor is less attractive.  The Arcade monitor is easier to work with for sure but once its installed they are both very similar during game play. The PC monitors allow for higher resolution so you can actually plop your keyboard and mouse down and surf the net or whatever you like to do in your spare time.

I have sold cabinets on ebay and prefer to sell them locally or through other advertising methods.

Central Arkansas

If there were a city called Central, this would be helpful. I am in NWA. Parts of Central Arkansas are 1.5 hrs from me, others are 5.5. What city are you in?

Well I had to buy 200 of them to get them for $2 each. I have seen them sale for $48 a set which is ridiculous. So using that accounting method you could say the table top is closer to $175 total investment..:)

If I could find a reliable source for quality clips I would resell them but right now I am having a hard enough time trying to get an inventory of parts so I can make more cabinets for myself.

If any part of Arkansas is 5.5 hours away you must drive like my grandmother!  :P Most people refer to Central Arkansas as the central part of the state. The city being LIttle Rock and the surrounding areas. I am in Maumelle.

While yours deserves the award for the largest control panel I have ever seen on a cocktail cabinet I do not seem to see the finished pics?

When  did this board become full of such critical negative sarchastic people?  ;D Nevermind I forgot where I was.

It bothers me none that you think you have a better cabinet or if someone thinks the asking price is too high. No one is forcing you to buy it or even look at this post.

These cabinets will sell and whoever gets them will get a good price. If you want to make comments go ahead. Fire away!

Yes it is large but I can play almost any game out there and it still looks like a cocktail table.  and is not as big as it looks, 12 inches deep.

I never said your price was high and I think they look nice.  I have almost $2000 in mine alone.

I believe it. The steering wheels you have on there are a different touch. I like that. How are you going to cover the cabinet? What I mean is are you going to cover the panel comepletely with glass or just a small lip all the way around or not all?

I didn't notice the timestamps earlier. Seems like its been a long project so far. As long as it stays enjoyable thats all that counts.

Nice cabinets, they look very well made.
Your prices are not out of line..this is not the place to sell them I'm afraid.

As this is a DIY site people will add up the price of your componets and want to pay that amount, or less. :P

Thanks for the tip and compliment. I don't expect to make a profit off of these remaining cabinets. They were built for a Halloween party and weren't completely finished (needed to be rewired for neatness) by Christmas so I never even tried to sell them with the others. The other cabinets from this lot sold for between $1600-$1900 so these are priced lower just to move. The hardest part about selling these cabinets is the shipping which I would include in the price I am asking. (read: Free Shipping)

I do plan on offering other cabinets but we are still in the construction phase of our shop. Our main goal will be to provide a quality product for as cheap as possible. We want to appeal to the home enthusiast that doesn't have the ability either from lack of skills or more importantly the lack of space, time and tools to create their own cabinet. They will be offered as either a multi-game board or PC based system both with Arcade monitors and options similar to all other cabinet makers. We hope to fill the gap between the high end/high price commercial products and the lower end/lower quality kit systems.

As for this site as a DIY site it is a great one with lots of really talented people contributing but there are those who come across these boards whom may not be as dedicated as most of the regulars are here. They just want to get info on how to build or acquire a cabinet.

I listed the first one on ebay. Will see what happens. I think the price is reasonable.

Had an offer to trade the yellow one for some cabinets but not sure if its a good deal.

Thanks!

Just saw this - nice builds! If I had the money, I'd pick one up. Considering what you've got in there, and the quality, definitely worth the price. Is that Mamewah you're using for the front end?

Thanks! If someone gets it at the starting price I will be practically giving it away! The next ones I build will have "Arcade" monitors in them and either a new PC or a multigame jamma board. Of course the price will be almost double. To me this setup is just as good and the price cant be beat.

They are running Wahcade!  A Linux frontend that looks a lot like Mamewah. Really works great for xmame or SDLmame.

Those cabinets are great, and i don't know why anyone is giving you crap.  It's an outstanding deal, and if you're still doing this, I'll recommend you next time someone wants to buy my cab.

Thanks! I appreciate the comment.

I ended up putting the blue one on ebay for $899. No takers! I did trade the yellow one to a guy for several cabinets which may or may not of been a good deal but hey this is a hobby and for me it is more about collecting/restoring/building cabinets then it is making money...for now at least. Eventually the boss will make me support myself, hence selling these cabinets so cheap.

The guy that got the yellow one seemed genuinely impressed and he has owned lots of cabinets. It helps to be able to see them in person and play them and hear them and smell them...mmmmmmm.

I have been building my workshop and hadn't had much time for anything arcade but I got an order for a custom upright a guy wants me to build so I will probably end up doing 2 or 3 more at that time and plan on going a little different route including using Arcade monitors.

I have debated on using a multi-jamma board but am not convinced thats the way to go. Sure for these people wanting to bastardize a jamma cabinet go ahead but these are new builds why not use the best solution which for me is a quality PC and controls and a nice monitor...PC or Arcade. Both are acceptable..The arcade monitor being easier to work with. Still need to finess the Linux OS I plan on using with SDLMame and wahcade.
