MK Cabinet, 2 (or 4 player) cp design
« on: March 25, 2007, 05:43:40 pm »
I just got a mk cabinet.  i want a 2 player (or 4 player) /trackball/spinner control panel.  Has anyone designed (has plans)  a control panel for this type of cab they would like to share with me.

thanks

Are you sure about the 4 player thing? Just remember the cost and the end look when making a panel for four players and think about how many times four people would actually be playing your machine.

Im looking for a konami cab for the turtles actually.  I found a children of the atom (cab the same cp not) that was converted but the seller wouldnt answer my messages.

you could rig the door so that players one and 2 get credits for one quarter and the same for 3 and 4 for door slot 2.  i noticed the mk cab looks like the konami cept for the front sticking out more.

i was going to make a cp like this in case i won the cab mentioned above but i didnt so maybe you can use my ideas.  depending on if you want to play all 4 player games then you will need either 2 or 3 buttons per player.  dont give each player a start button, make the first action button near them dual function.  the trackball and spinner could be in the center of the cp (between players 2 and 3).  the best thing for you to do would be measure how much space will be needed for the parts you want and how much space you want between them.

which spinners and trackball were you looking at?  if using a pc find a trackball mouse.  i have a logitech that is maybe 2" that i was going to use for a project and im sure ebay has a bunch.

some good 4 player games are TMNT, TMNT Turtles in Time, GI Joe, Simpsons, Bucky O'hare and xmen.

I'm settling for a 2 player CP. If it ever comes to 4 player games, I'll just open up the cab to reveal 2 extra pc controllers. I really don't want a frankenpanel.

Hey! No fair showing the European cab! The American cab may be big and bulky, but it's nowhere near as ugly as that thing.

Surprisingly, KLOV doesn't have a good picture of one, but it's very similar (identical?) to the Simpsons cab.

Before Konami started making really wide CPs, most manufacturers made use of the depth of the CP more. Check out Gauntlet, Captain Commando, or even Konami's Main Event.

I think there are measurements of the Gauntlet and TMNT cabs over at Jakobud.com.
Brevity is not my strong suit.

after doing some research i found 3 designs (give me some input)

the first with plans and everything (didn't know why i didn't think about it) the plans for jakobuds cab.  I think its a little wide though, just a tad, his cab is based on a midway design (lusid's). If his cab looks good with his cp, mine should look just as good!

the second is a store bought arcades r fun mini-quad.  sleek design, has all the goodies i want, cnc cut. My only cons are the curve of the cp, dont know if it will look good with the front "hump" of the mortal kombat cabinet. Second the price. They are giving a 10% of to byoac members, but still.  I might give it to myself for my birthday (April 4Th ).

the third is try to duplicate Melarky's Arcade fever control panel.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64354.0

He made his on a virtual fighter cab (very similar to mine, they both have the hump in the front) I like how he followed the angle of the front of the cab (break out the protractor) I'm nervous that i will attempt to make a cp and i dint like the end results.

I could just leave the 2 player 6 button layout i have now  and stop messing with my cab?

I like melarky's cp.  if you have the tools id go this route or leave the cp as is.  if youre worried about the way it will turn out try using the tried and true method of using cardboard to build a mockup.

of course if you want the exact same layout as him see if he has plans for it.  it looks really good imho.
