Atomic Arcade Encoder
« on: March 18, 2007, 07:11:02 pm »
Has anyone used the Atomic Arcade keyboard/trackball encoder that is available on ebay?

Ebay Link

I ask only because the price is right and the fact they are locally to me so I'd probably be able to pick the thing up for $10....and $10 for a joystick/trackball all-in-one option is pretty damn spiffy (even if I do have to solder the connections).

Did anyone ever test the thing to determine how many simultaneous keys it will handle?

Thanks for the links btw.

Not that anyone posted. Ckenney11 was the only one posting that he had purchased one I believe.

Thanks for volunteering though!  ;D

DON'T TOUCH IT!!!!  If it's as bad as the keyboard encoder that they sell then it's a piece of crap!!

They lie in their adverts, saying that their keyboard encoder does not block or ghost!! It sucks bigtime!!!

Would you trust a company that lied about that....

I'm wondering what trackballs come without an interface?....

All real arcade trackballs come without an interface..... They were never designed to be connected to a PC. The Happ and the Betson trackballs are designed to connect directly to an arcade board, which has the interface built into it.

Both Happ and Betson also now produce a USB and PS2 version of their TrackBalls. Mostly because a lot of modern games run on slightly modified PC hardware.

I bought this encoder for my vertical Mame machine and I don't have one complaint.  It is used basically for the classics and a couple of bowling/trackball games, but for the price you can't go wrong.  I never experienced any ghosting problems, but I am not playing 2 player fighters either.  The soldering takes a little time, but I like this one alot.  I have a Hagstrom KE72-T, that I spent a small fortune on, and in price comparison, the atom encoder wins.  Besides, what's 20 clams nowadays?

If you are going to be using it for a 1 player cab, I don't see how any of the blocking or ghosting could be much of an issue. 2 players is another story.
