Act Lab Light Guns stink
« on: March 10, 2007, 02:58:03 pm »
I've had it with these guns.  I'm putting them on Ebay.  I can't get them to work in MAME32 v.95 for anything.  They work and calibrate like a charm in Win98se, once I go to MAME32, i get nothing.  No movement, no flash, no calibration.  I've spent hours reading this forum, trying different configs, still no results.  They do work because both usb guns work in windows.  I'm no idiot, i've built 5 cabinets, but this is my first attemp with lightguns.  I think I'm going to sell these and get the new EMS guns.  Anyone want them, email and i'll give you a good price!

The new EMS guns are the Topguns, I believe.

Are they the TV (S-video) versions??

Besides the LCD Topguns, are there any other guns that will work with s-video besides the ActLabs guns? I've looked through the posts and it looks like these are my only two options. I don't want to mount the strips on the side of my cabinets (which doesn't exist yet), so I'm thinking ActLabs is my only solution.

I have an Act-Lab gun.
My daughter loves playing Zero-Point with it.

Works perfectly in MAME32 and MAME.

You haven't set something up right.

You have not setup the Act Labs guns correctly.   They work fairly well and are easy to use with mame.   Mame32 was easier to setup then regular mame.

I've got 2 Act Labs Lightguns... The "spacey" looking gun from around 2002 and the newer smaller style that they have been selling the last couple of years. I find that these guns are pretty good... The older model from 2002 was alot cheaper ($34.90 US) and in my opinion, was a better gun than the "new" model (around $80, I think  :dunno) they now sell. I like the look of the "new" model more but it seems abit small and harder on the hand when pulling the trigger compared to the smoother trigger in the "older" model. They're both USB For PC monitors... Some don't like these guns but I find they work well in Mame, ALG CD-Roms from Digtital Leisure, and all three of the House of The Dead games (needs "The TroubleShooter" for some games) not mention other emulators (NES,etc...) Not plugging any of these games or trying to sell lightguns, just giving my opinion. Thanks.

The Act Lab guns suck.

I got mine a few weeks ago, and in less than a week, they were sent back to Act Labs for a refund.

They are cheap and flimsy. I have held sturdier cap guns.

I have the 'ray gun' style TV out guns from 2002 also.  They work great for me (area51 rocks with them).   :dunno  You may want to also try a newer MAME version as there were some significant multiple mouse (lightgun) changes around v105.  I have an arcade monitor in my cab right now though, so they are presently collecting dust.
