Dedicated Forum for Freebox & Moving some support forum?
« on: February 27, 2007, 02:34:33 pm »
I asked Saint about a officiel forum about Freebox. It seen he liked that idea, and would see on that when i whet home.

Since there we so have 4 support forum for jukebox software (Freebox, SkJukebox, UncleT's Jukebox and Wincab). I thinked to create a child forum for each.

I also thing Audio/Jukebox/MP3 Forum can been renamed to "Jukebox & Software Players" (wich each support forum would been "linked" to) or such like that.

Since it may been removed from the top bar, I would create a Sticky thread about these 4 support forum, so I make sure there can been heard and used.

I hope other jukebox authors is ok with these changes?

Otherwice I think 5 forums with 4 support forums for only jukebox software can been to much?

I have pm to all 3 authors, so they have a change.

I was thinging to "merge" all about jukebox into this forum and it can have some child forum as well.

PowerMame should stay as it are, since it have nothing to due with Jukebox Player.

A Another Idea:
A new forum named "General jukebox software support" under support section for used all form for software based played (freebox including). I guess these childboard woud been much more seen here (one sticky thread for each software in main support forum).

Based on the date/time of the postings in each jukebox forum, it is clear that "Dos/WinCab" gets the most attention by far.   Now, if I were getting as many postings regarding my jukebox as does Chris, I would prefer to keep my own forum existing so I would not have to search through multiple postings to try to find which posts require my attention.

Anyway, I will just go along with what Saint decides is best.  Possibly just let Chris decide what he prefers .... since he uses the forums a lot more than I do ......

of course, Im are NOT intereset removing any support boards. If I did, sorry.

When it change to child status, it would just doing these terms.

Downside:
 - It does only have a small link on the frontpage (and no links to the homepages).
 - Link on the top may been removed, but I hope these can been keeped.

Instead:
- For get more attention for the support forums, we create a sticky thread about it (since most users would read this forum first). Here we can link to the homepage and of course the support forum.

Now you are soon finsihed very a greatefull version of your software.

The only downside I see is that a little more software promotion (release announcements, etc.) may happen in the audio forum.  Otherwise I see no problem with it.

I was happy with my big thred to be honest.... Most of my support comes through my own forum when it's working or via MSN chats and Emails which is why my 17 page thred has died down a bit of late. To be honest i am having a hard time right now cause my site is so up and down but once it is stable i think my support will probably be run through that with this site as a fall back (Most of my regular user come from here).

I think SK also handles the bulk of his support on his own forum as well, i do pop over there from time to time to see what he's up to and it looks like that is where his activity seems to take place.

To be honest i am not sure what Space fractal is proposing to do, so i will just go along with whatever happens. I don't really want a seperate support board on here though as the freebox thred is enough for when my site is offline at the moment and i don't have the time to control 2 boards.

Barcrest: You are 100% correct. I think we leave as it are.! No changes elsewice.

It was because im was not only that one asked for it, so the loong tread eventuelly can been splitted. Now the domain is up, and I hope there not have more trouble about it.

I think Chris is 100% correct also, since it can been have more announcements on this board. This is I see a problem on the software board for nearly every versions of some FE and skins.

Instead we could have a "Software Announcement Board" to annonce any new software, both FE, skins, Jukebox  software and other tools as well? It should not been a help board, just announcements.

Saint: Can you move this thread to the forum discuess board (since it more sence there now)?

I am getting more confused ......  will there at least be one "Jukebox Software" forum located in the main forum listings at the top of BYOAC?  If so, then when I click on this forum what will I see inside?

I guess it would be nice (but do not know if possible) to click on a "Jukebox Software" forum link and then have an additional page be displayed which lists the individual jukebox applications which are available.    The user can then go into the particular jukebox app section they wish to make comments on.  This would allow the removal of all the separate jukebox forum links from the main page and still allow jukebox developers to maintain their own jukebox forum.   Just a thought .... do not know if this can be done.

I would not recommend having a Jukebox forum and also a separate "Software Releases" forum.   Personally, I would prefer going into one Jukebox forum to see all jukebox information within.   If you had two separate forums (ie: "software" and "new releases"), then I would probably feel inclined to post a new release announcements in both places .....  and that would not be good.  Basically, I would not "think" people would prefer to have look in two forums to read information regarding one jukebox.

Also, I am not a big fan of putting all discussions about a topic in one hugh posting ..... makes it very difficult/frustrating trying to finding specific information within these types of posts.  For example, it would be bad to have all UncleT Jukebox discussions located with in one long post.  I like being able to point to an "UncleT's Jukebox forum" from my website ..... even though no discussion really ocurs there   :laugh2:   (but hopefully this will change in the near future .... we will see).  Oh yeah, not a real big fan of sticky posts either since there are too many of them and they push the new postings down off the viewing page.  Sticky posts are good for their function, but some forums have too many of them, but I will live  :)

....so much for not giving an opinion ..... but I am confused as to what is really requested here now so without understand fully what direction is being proposed for sure, I decided to make some.

PS:  I also have no sense of what really can be done regarding setting up forums at all, so I can not forsee what can be done to offer a good solution..... :P

Well i was only refering to myself when i said about the big long thred... As i only use this for posting releases and updating users when my actual forum is down. I operated with just that thred for a whole year almost before Ninjaepisode stepped in and gave me my own site and i was more than happy with it. Since it has grown in usage i do need more than that now but if i have to i will fall back to that one thred.

unclet,

I am looking at having a menu link system at the top that will do what your suggesting. It would be nice if it could collapse or expand on child sub-boards based on which top-level subject one you clicked on. I can probably accomplish this, but just haven't had the time to write it yet.

Whenever we relegate something to a child board, it becomes deserted rather quickly since the visibility in the main menu is lost. But, at the same time when we have a monolithic board that has many topics on it and no discernable way (without more custom code) to indicate the drill-down subject, things get lost in the noise. Both ways work, and both ways suck depending on the perspective of the audience. :)

Status about permissions would not been changed, if it changed. It more that way you would see in main page (forum.arcadecontrols.com).

Example: Look on the game review forum (under software), that board have a child status.

Yep the visibility lost, wich is a big downside. This is why I came with a idea about a sticky locked thread (in Jukebox forum), who would have links to all support forums as well and homepage.

I like how the Game Review Forum is listed inside the Software Forum ....... is this what you are proposing be done here with the Jukebox forums?  Basically, have one "Jukebox Software" forum visible from the main page and then once inside there will be 4 to 5 more jukebox forums listed ..... that would be nice.

Yep. Correct Unclet.

The main problem is what both saint nad sirwoogie said. They CAN been lees seen, since this is why I hope they still can see on the top links.

But I guess support forums listed inside jukebox software would not have a problem.

These who download jukebox software have allready used the jukebox forum in some way., and rather they should see the support forums anyway.

This was thay way I thinked about. Maybe a sticky thread is not really needed?

I would agree .... I would think if anyone who is interested enough in Jukebox software in that they wish to write a post for the author, then they would already know that the specific Jukebox forums are located inside of the main "Jukebox Software" forum.

Actually, if you use a name like "Jukebox Software and Forums" as the main forum name, then everyone should understand that general jukebox software discussion as well as individual forums are all located inside .....

That might be long of a name .... how about "Jukebox SW & Forums"

Remember this jukebox sections is NOT just about software, it all abouts sound to do, includning hardware.

So somethings like:

Title: Jukebox Hardware & Software
Destription: "Forum for the discussion of Speakers, sound cards, jukeboxes, software players, and other audio-related subjects. Support Forums for some players is also here."

The word Mp3 may not sound good any more, since all players support more than one formats now to day.

I understand ... although I would think "Jukebox Hardware and Software" is too long:

How about one of the following:

"Jukebox Discussion"
"Everything Jukebox"
"Anything Jukebox"

Whatever anyone figures out is fine by me.  I think you are on the right path.

You are correct.

We see what Sirwoogie and Saint does, if they didicated to move them as a child board (or wait until a fourt jukebox forum is comming) or not (or just rename the board).
