I'm just wondering if anyone ever switched out their quarter coin mech for any other denominations? My machine only has one coin mech (quarters), so I was thinking about getting another one and I'm wondering if anyone's ever seen ones that take nickels or dimes or something.
It's just something that popped into my head today. Anyone ever try anything like that?
Depends how much you want to spend.... You can get a programmable electronic coin mech and a credit board. Electronic mechs usually have the ability to store information about 6 coin types all at once. You just teach them what the coins look like by switching the mech into program mode and telling it which of those 6 channels you want to program. You then feed about 10 or 12 coins of the correct type through it so that it learns what they should look like.
The mech is then connected to a credit board which reads the pulses from each of the channels and counts them. The credit board is programed to send out a credit pulse to the game when it has received the correct number of pulses from the mech.
For example..... lets say that 1 game = $1USD
If the credit board receives 4 pulses from mech Chanel 1 (which you have programed to read quarters) then it will send out 1 credit pulse to the game.
OR
Lets say you put 10 X 10Cents into the mech.... you may have programed Chanel 2 to read those... Once the credit board sees 10 pulses on Chanel 2 it will again send 1 credit pulse to the game.
BUT it's not cheap... you could perhaps acquire good ones second hand for about $180USD.
