Where Could I Get Something Like This?
« on: January 29, 2007, 05:36:06 am »

Basically I need this to hold the glass bezel in front of the monitor inside the cabinet. As the picture shows its basically a hinge but not just a regular swinging hinge. It should be a hinged clamp of sorts. One with springs or something similar that will lock it and hold it in place when moved towards the glass. I know I've seen something like this being used for other applications but can't recall where and how it was used since it was a long time ago. I also have no idea what something like this would be called or where to look for something like this.

What if anything like this exists that can do this? Any help would be appreciated.  ???

spring hinge...
mcmaster-carr.com and many hardware stores carry the type with the leaf spring; which can be reversed to automatically open instead of automatically close, so that it may befit your  design.  How will you tolerate the thickness of the glass and the placement of the hinge?  You would probably need to build up the contacting "flap" with an angle, in such a manner that the hinge does not "close" all the way down, but the flap does.

Isn't the glass already going to be firmly wedged into place by the blocks behind it?

yeah, why is such a hinge necessary?  if you are worried about plexi flexing a solid brace could prevent it...

It's going to be glass, not plexi. I shouldn't have added those wedges. My final design won't call for them which is why I need a spring hinge to hold it firmly in place so it doesn't bounce around when players are wailing on the controls.
