Wiring of my Control Panel
« on: January 27, 2007, 05:05:18 pm »
Hi I just started building my Mame cabnet, i work at a countertop factory so I'm building it out of scrap particle board, iv already built the cp i used the dims from a mortal combat II. And i just finished the cabinet that it will fit on just have to wood fill and paint it. the cp is completely laminated looks pretty cool, I just need to piece all this together , ordered the buttons 6 fire buttons 2 joysticks 1 player 2 player I'm looking at making a streetfighter style cp. and i ordered this  http://cgi.ebay.ca/PC-Arcade-Controller-2-Players-For-MAME-Cab_W0QQitemZ230083443930QQihZ013QQcategoryZ3945QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem my question is has anyone used it i have received it but not my buttons so I'm a little confused how it works,  i know how cp wiring works iv read alot. its just that each function IE. player 2 up , has 2 wires , am i to assume 1 is positive and 1 is ground , its just there not labled ground and positive and there all the same colour wires so how am i supposed to know what is what , help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it support USB? Cause I wouldn't want to get anything that takes up my PS2 ports. Those I want restricted to my original Keyboard and mouse.

As for your question, it shouldn't matter which one is ground or positive. Ground is usually shared among all the other ground connections. They just did the work for you of adding the ground as a pair for each wire. Unless your panel is on metal, which I doubt, ground shouldn't really matter. Even if it was on metal since it doesn't come in contact with the metal CP.

Just think of it as a switch. Touch the two contacts together and it triggers the button or joystick press regardless of which one is ground or positive. So you can connect them either way. Just keep them away from all the other contacts. You wouldn't want to short something out and break your nifty little contraption. Not that I know anything about it. I'd rather go for the I-Pac.
