Man, watching this video makes me realize - some people got it and some people don't. I don't know if I can develop "Defender fingers" this late in life.

Check out this dude playing defender. While he may not be the greatest defender player in the world, he's way better than me.



By the way, if your the dude who made this video fess up!

He's ok.

I could give him a few tips.

1: Reverse more.
2: Destroy the humans bar 1 or 2 in any wave after number 5. Otherwise too many mutants.
3: Smart bombs are to get you out of trouble and I don't use them to destroy the Pods at the beginning of a wave unless I have too.
4: Thrust more to complete the wave faster and avoid the baiters coming out.
5: In the first to waves at least, you want to try and capture all 10 humans for MAXIMUM points while the going is easy.

Other than that hes ok.

I play Defender quite a bit and have done so since the 80's. So I am rather good at it. (modest)

Keep practising leapinlew.

What about hyperspace? Is it totally worthless? I seem to die about 50% of the time I use it.

So anyhow... I'm waiting for your video! (and not the video of you building a cocktail table in 2 minutes.

I remember being good at Defender. Played it again recently... Well, in my defense, I'm still limited to playing on the keyboard for now.

Sorry, the thrust part of it is meant to read:

Thrust more towards the end of the wave. This will allow you to get to your target before the baiters come out.


Notice at towards the end of a level, he continues to fly in one direction when the oponent in is behind him on the scanner? And if he doesn't destroy it, he will fly over if and continue in the same direction. That's asking for BAITERS!!!!

Hyperspace will kill you 2 in 3 times you use it. Thats a fact. Avoid using it unless you are in deep ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.


I could post a quick video I suppose.
Maybe the first couple of levels as my camera doesn't record for long.

Donkey Kong: Are you playing Robotron? Man, I am so addicted to that game at the moment. I have just cracked 300k. Still not good enough, but I will get better with more practise.

Funny thing, I recently had to change my grip on the left stick because of a blister from too many games.  :laugh2:

Disagree - wastes lots of points. More points = more lives. Mutants can be handled.

I only use the SB on the pods when all 4 are on the screen at one time. Quick easy points.

Robotron seems to be much harder on mame because it does NOT bog down when there is alot of action on the screen.

Robotron seems to be much harder on mame because it does NOT bog down when there is alot of action on the screen.

Mame accurately recreates gameplay - including emulating the CPU used on the machines.

IIRC on older versions of MAME the slowdown wasn't emulated. I believe this has now been fixed but it's hard to say for sure without actually comparing MAME and a genuine machine side by side.

The Robotron video blitter was fixed in version .99.
If you play an older version back to back, the difference is subtle, but you'll definitely notice higher scores on the post .99 version.
