The epoxy and wood idea should work, but there's something else you can try. Your local automotive store should have some mounting tape by 3M. It's gray and has a red plastic backer.
Clean the metal really well (use some alcohol). Then throw a couple of strips of that on top of the spinner, remove the red backing strip and press into place. But make sure it's positioned properly. The stuff holds like mad, so re-positioning isn't part of the equation!
For those who might be skeptical, I'll say up front that I have bent screwdrivers prying things off that were stuck down with this tape. They come off, but not without a serious fight.
