Mounting a spinner to a metal cp?

I've got a TurboTwist spinner from GGG, and I want to install it on my metal cp, preferably without carriage bolts from the top.  What are my options?  My thought was to glue a 1/2" thick piece of wood to the underside of the metal cp, then screw the spinner into that.  Has anyone done something similar?  Your thoughts are very much appreciated before I start doing something stupid!

The epoxy and wood idea should work, but there's something else you can try.  Your local automotive store should have some mounting tape by 3M.  It's gray and has a red plastic backer.

Clean the metal really well (use some alcohol).  Then throw a couple of strips of that on top of the spinner, remove the red backing strip and press into place.  But make sure it's positioned properly.  The stuff holds like mad, so re-positioning isn't part of the equation!

For those who might be skeptical, I'll say up front that I have bent screwdrivers prying things off that were stuck down with this tape.  They come off, but not without a serious fight.

Here's my solution - it worked like a charm.  It is easily removable too - just remove the knob from the top and unscrew it from underneath!

First see how much the bolt from the spinner is going to stick out from the control panel.  You can adjust the knob probably, but make sure it will be the way you want it before some semi-permanent installation.

Javeryh, thanks for the link to your writeup.  That was the option I was thinking about in my original post.  How thick was the wood you used and how long were the screws?

No problem!  I used 3/4" plywood (a 2"x2" square) and drilled a way oversized hole for the spinner shaft to go through.  Also, Gorilla Glue expands quite a bit when it dries so go easy on it.  I had to sand some of the excess away - it wasn't a big deal though.  The screws were #8 and 1/2" long.  The thing doesn't budge at all and the spinner works great.  I did sand/scuff the surface of the metal so the glue had something to bond to.  Also, be careful that you are able to adjust the length of the spinner shaft though so the knob is able to sit at the right height (we are using different spinners and I'm not familiar with yours).
