Can I use a megatouch monitor on a computer?
« on: October 24, 2006, 08:47:34 am »
I lost an auction on a megatouch upright. I'm not sure if it's a bad thing or not. It has a 19" touchscreen in it and I was curious if anyone knew if I could use the existing monitor that was in it on a computer? My thinking was I could drop a computer right in the unit and connect the monitor to the computer and it would be a quick and dirty jukebox.

Ideally, I could open up a megatouch and it would have a VGA connection and a serial cable. All the megatouches I have run into thus far have run linux - but I wasn't sure what the connection to the computer was with these units.

Here are some pics:

Depends on the version of Megatouch. Early ones used a CGA resolution monitor. All the later ones used a VGA resolution monitor.

The touchscreen glass was bonded to the face of the monitor and Merit used two touchscreen manufacturers: Microtouch (primary supplier and it's on 90% of the Megatouch screens) and ELO (secondary supplier on 10% of the machines out there). There is a touch screen controller with the glass too. You'd need to get drivers downloaded from the touchscreen maker.
