i know people in the u.k that repair game boards,but i think the biggest problem is the board is a copy and they are well known for these type of faults

Yeah, I thought that also when i was reading this one last night. i have an original Sega Shinobi and I knew that one was a boot. (Beta, Beya, or whatever is says on screen)
The board layout is a bit different too.

I see that he has an adapter of some sort attached to the main connector. I know the Sega pcb is defineately not JAMMA. I was wondering if he had a problem there along with the broken corner bits. Not sure what that bootleg setup would be. From what I was gathering is that he can't control anything, like joystick and button functions and such.

Is that correct?

he is missing all the foreground graphics,this is a common fault with these rip off boards and absolutely no point in trying to repair as they are crap(world cup 90 springs to mind,oh and spellunker)

Oh damn, if that's the case then those two little IC's he's concerned about probably have nothing to do with any kind of serious graphics issue like what you're describing.

be funny though if it was the ribbon connectors missing causing the fault,look at the pics-2 layers of board,no ribbon connectors

Now that would be funny...but seriously, it would probably be totally dead if that were the case.
Sounds like a graphics ROM is just not booting at all, bad, no power, etc.
Hmmm..... I wonder if those bootlegs have the suicide battery issues like the Sega boards do? I don't recall if they die completely or if they just develope issues.
(guess I should go look before mine does  )
