Display Woes

Hello,

I'm bulding my cabinet that houses a X-arcade unit, but I have a width factor of the cabinet of 30 inches.  Now the surround will take in some of that space, but I'm still looking at a hole with a 15" VGA monitor.

My problems with this cabinet build have been endless with weight issues (creaking floors, plaster cracking below etc) so a nice big tv is out of the question. 

I asked about mirror displays, but that is just so lame to implement in this situation.  So I'm looking at TFTs.

Now Scan (Uk) is ofering a nice LG TFT 19" for under

It is not the ideal situation, but it will still display just fine. I have been learning to set up my cab system oon my office system. My office is a flat pannel.

If it is the only way you can make it happen right now, then do it. Better to be playing than wondering what it would be like to play.

I've used Aria numerous times before and their service is very good and most products are at a very good price.

As for the use on an arcade, I use one at home & obviously on a laptop I carry around and I've been experimenting with MAME's scanline features, you can get some intersting effects using this (not quite the same as using a std res arcade monitor) but this does slow down the emulation but on some games looks more "Authentic".  Also If you purchase a vesa mount you "should" be able to turn the monitor on it's side to play vertical games vertically, just depends on how you want to mount the screen. Also the monitor mentioned above also has a DVI input so you have the best of everything

My cab uses a LCD monitor with digital input, and looks great! You can even enable scan lines and such in Mame if you really want a "close" approximate to old CRT displays, but I was never a purist for display.

It also gives you the option for higher resolution games that arcade monitors just can't handle, and you've love having the ability to use small text - something an arcade monitor just can't do well...

The responses have made me take the plunge and that Aria 19" looks very nice with a 12ms rating and DVI inputs makes it all real easy.
