Classic mod feedback
« on: May 02, 2006, 09:16:11 pm »
I know this is faux paux.  However I got this cab empty, no metal at all and I'd like to maintain some sort of continutity,  so I'm working on a MAME conversion.  This is a mock up.

Iv'e already made a couple of mods, as you see here in the pic.  Are the graphics OK?

It's not a Faux Pas at all if you got an empty wrecked cab...... The only time people don't like classic cabs being used in a conversion is when they're a perfectly good original item, that is getting ripped apart.

The graphics design looks fine to me.... Should make a nice finished item.

Most bottles and jars contain at least twenty-five percent recycled Pacman.
And research indicates that Space Invaders are strongly attracted to people who have recently eaten meat pies.

Are you sticking with the Tempest design?

If so, Kudos for restoring/repairing the original artwork.

If not, the A$$hat mob will be by to visit later.

Thanks for the feedback, especially yours, deadkenndys1105.  Now I don't feel quite so strange about it.
As for restoring the original artwork and keeping the Tempest theme, yes, that's the first step in getting this completed.  For now I'm going to hurry and get it working and put together with the stuff I've assembled over the past 9 months.
Gotta get this one done, there's an auction coming up in about 3 weeks. :)

That's ingenious man.

I have a similar cab (not a tempest tho) that may end up like that now.

What I hate is when a true classic cab (tempest, centipede, dig-dug, ect...) ends up with a 4 foot wide CP on it...

This is a way to have a decent sized CP and a still classic look machine... but remembers, it's gotta have a spinner to retain it's "street cred!"

Spinner = YES!

I spent the best part of today cutting my CP, routing the polycarbonate, and other good stuff.  The new CP fits within  the dimensions of the cab and sticks out a bit.  It's 23 3/4" X 11 3/4".
I'll start a thread in the project announcements to detail what I've been up to.
Thanks for the kudos.

Im not liking that litte bit sticking out but at lest it isnt a 4 foot wide 4 foot long CP.  What spinner are you using?  Do you have any temp CPs or drawings.

That little piece that sticks out is gone now.  It's the base of the new CP, which is still there, but a bit shorter so it fits within the design I'm trying to acheive (se the pics).  I'm using an Oscar Vortex spinner.  After I cut the hole in the polycarbonate for the trackball and the Ms. Pac/Gallaga reunion stick I can show a pic of the CP design.  Right now it's all clamped together and I don't want to pull it apart just yet.  I hope those cuts will take place on Tuesday afternoon.

Do you have any temp CPs or drawings.
I'm not sure if you mean temporary or tempest, but I have a mock up drawing, and no temest art at all.  For the first pass at the art, I've got a somewhat lame, but also kinda cool piece that ties my CP, admin buttons, and bezel together, sort of spanning the three pieces.
Once the polycarbonate is ready, I'll get pics of the artwork up.

I ment temporary controls.  If I was you i would restore it but its going to make a good MAME cab.  Im glad your using a good spinner and not a mouse hack.  There is nothing wrong with mosue hacks there just not the same thing tho.  Just dont go crazy with the controls simple is always better.  I think it would be a good idea just to use swapable so you can have your spinner on a tempist like control panel.
