coin mech question - looking for a coin mech that will accept any coin.

i am looking to install a coin mech on my next cabinet. i have been using a button where
the coin mech would be in the past, but on my next cab, i want to be able to have a coin mech
so i can use dump all my spare change at the end of the day.
i purchased a coin mech but it rejects anything but quarters.

has anyone been able to find a coin mech that easiily will take any coin (penny, nickel, dime, quarter)
i am probally still going to have a credit button too so i can play games without using change.

any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

I saw an interesting mechanism on Ebay a few months ago that could be programmed to accept multiple coins. Not too expensive either.

Happs IL Universal System coin door and mech will do that for you, 

If you want, it will give you different outputs for each coin type that you put into it OR it can even be set to give pulsed outputs on the same line.... So for example you can have a quarter give you one game, and putting a dollar in  give you six games.

However!!  The downside is that they are very expensive and I'm not sure that Happs list them in the retail catalog. They are however available to trade... I know, becuase we use them in the arcade I work for. You might need to ask a Happs dealer to order them. I'm also not 100% certain that they're not a European only unit.... Need to check that out.

It would be easier (or, just as easy) to hook up a microwitch to a chute.    It's been done before.  I've seen examples made out of cardboard and one out of plastic.  If I can find the URLs, I'll post them.

The only downside to this is that you lose the sound of the coin going through the mech.

There are ready made sensors for a few $$$.  You need a 'DIGITAL SLOT OPTOSCHMITT SENSOR'.  http://rocky.digikey.com/scripts/ProductInfo.dll?Site=US&V=480&M=HOA0961-N51 looks suitable for the job.  If you use non matrixed switches to ground, the output from the sensor should connect direct to the encoder.  Otherwise some digital logic is needed.

Note this is going entirely by theory and datasheet, as I haven't done it myself yet.

I made one a while ago out of duct tape and a cardboard box, but I recently upgraded to a real coin mech that only accepts quarters and tokens.
