New member first project ((Cutting Begins and parts arived.))
« on: February 13, 2008, 09:02:47 am »
Hello everyone I am a new member working on my first cab.  I am going off of the Ultimate Arcade 2 templates with some mods.  First mod is the doomsday button from thinkgeek as my power button for the unit.  This button will either flip down or slide out from a hidden panel in the side.  Second mod is instead of a coin door I have a mini fridge with a coin door facade.  The upper sides of the cabinet will be painted with chalkboard paint so my artist friends can do cool doodles waiting to play.

Sorry for the paragraph but as i only have the materials now no pics yet.

As far as the coin door facade for the fridge goes,  I would paint the fridge of the door to match the cab (a given) and then install the "unreal coin door" sticker from groovygamegear.com.

http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=89&products_id=308

That would look great!

Hmmm... sounds like a great idea but I'd be nervous about sticking a fridge in there so close to all the other electronics inside - how are you going to prevent condensation and how are you going to regulate the temperature inside?

The Real Coin Door sticker is a must if you are going to go this route!

The fridge holds like 3 longnecks not very big.  I am not so worried about condensation because the back of the bottom of the cab will be left open.  The GGG fake picture might be the best I originally thought of trying to merge an actual coin door and the fridge but I am not sure if there will be enough room.

The only problem I see with this idea is that the fridge will only hold 3 longnecks (if i understand correctly).
Thats just enough to get me started, plus if you have a gaming friend over helping you drink them, someone is going to be making a lot of trips to the big fridge in the kitchen.
But I must say I dont think i have heard of this idea before..

I fully understand that beer runs must be made to the main fridge.  the main purpose for the mini fridge is for a close way to keep my drinks nice and frosty.

Welcome to the forum Sarcastro. Yeah, it's more of a holding spot to keep your current drink cool while your hands are busy playing. Ice idea. Can't wait to see it.

Now you got me thinking if I could build a 1/4 barrel chiller into mine, and use a tron joystick as a tapper...  Ahh, heck with it, just plug it in my vein!

I have never seen a planing project looking like that.  :laugh2:  Just don't be using any power tools after one of those planning sessions. ;)

The bottles were actually soda but the caps were corona and others of the like.  They were the only bottle that we had lying around  :dunno .

So this is the almost finished arcade.  It started as a mk2 cab and I build a new cp for it.  The cp has 4 u360's with 9 buttons each, a trackball, and spinner.  Yes i know its a ton of buttons but 4 player super smash bros. for the n64 is sooo much fun.
