OMFG people!  Why is everyone so afraid of decasing a monitor?  It's pretty darn easy, the dangerous part is easy to avoid and even if you do happen to get zapped by it, it doesn't hurt that bad...

I've often used a standard tv in the cocktail position.  How I usually do it is place it in front of the chair I'm sitting in, about several feet away.  I've been known to switch the cocktail position from right hand to the left, but that's only after I've had a few.  No need to go gettin' all crazy from the git-go.

As for safety, always rest your glass on a level and sturdy surface, and only mix as much as you're going to drink.  No sense in letting a perfectly good cocktail go to waste because you passed out and can't finish it.

I've decased so many monitors. The case isn't really the problem.... take the case off, you're fine. Start unplugging wires... then you could have a problem.

There can be some serious problems... but decasing shouldn't be one of them.

I have a TV in my cab.. no problems. Make sure you get one with an automatic on after power failure option. It'll make your life a lot easier.

well this is my frst cab so i think i mite go for th e easy option lol but im still deciding as the cocktail is smaller and i dont think i will have alot of room

I'd be more concerned about color purity issues.  TVs and cheap monitors don't like being on their side or backs.  Tilting this cheapy 19" monitor on my desk back about 45 degrees makes the colors go all wiggity wack.  A manual degaussing tool should maybe help this?

I'm assuming your joking right?  Since it can kill you I think everyone should take note.

Its IS dangerous.  And it IS EASY to get around.  Just read up before you do it.

Last...

If your building an cocktail cabinet, you don't want more then a 19" monitor in it.  And you can get a GREAT 19" arcade CRT for 200 shipped anywhere in the US.  So for the price of an ArcadeVGA (or using dos and many/most video cards + some time configuring it) you can have the ultimate solution.... that you don't have to decase... because it comes in the buff.

An important note:  Cocktail tables take up MORE room than standard arcade machines.

so 19 inchs is the max due to the curvature of the screen and the sitting position relative to the screen, right?  if you happened to get a flat screen monitor/tv, you could go larger within reason, right?  i just wanted to add a couple of cents to this worthwhile discussion.

I would suggest that whatever you do with your TV, before you mount it leave it runnning for a few hours out in open space in cocktail position (probably best to do that while it's still cased  and see how it goes. When I was testing out my monitor I left it for about 5 hours - it got a little warmer than usual but nothing worth worrying about. Not sure about a TV though.
