A Few Cocktail Glass Questions!
« on: September 02, 2005, 11:19:04 pm »
I went to a glass shop today to have them make the top for my cocktail.  They were asking for $141 for the entire thing and that seemed a bit high so I told them I would think about it.  Plus there were so many options and I didn't want to mess it up.

1.  I know there is a site around here where somone compared smoked/tinted glass to regular clear glass but I can't find it - can anyone help?

2.  Do I need the glass to be tempered?  I guess it should be strong but the only thing I can imagine dropping on it is maybe a beer bottle if it slipped out of someone's hands.  Any thoughts?

3.  For the "smoked/tinted" glass, do I want it bronze or grey?  The bronze actually had a golden color/tint to it and I don't think it would look so good but the guy said the grey smoked glass would be pretty dark and might not be good for viewing the monitor.  Any thoughts here?

THANKS!!!

$141US seems way OTT.

I'm in Australia.  For my cocktail I used standard untinted glass called "float glass". It is not safety glass and will shatter but since it sits flat, if it does break it will not fall on anyone/thing.  That cost me about $30AU.

My 2 cents worth.

That's what I thought...

I found the thread comparing smoked plexi to clear:  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=4779.0;all

Now my big issue might be using a piece of smoked glass in the monitor cutout and use clear tempered glass for the top.

Has anyone done this?  How did it turn out?
