wiring questions ??
« on: July 25, 2005, 02:11:10 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to wire my controls (never done any wiring before).
I have the miniPac with the wiring harness, and I've run the wires according to the diagram. However, the diagram lists buttons 1-8 for each player and I'm only using 6 buttons for each player.

Also the diagram doesn't show any wires for pause or exit, or pinball flippers (all of which I have). So, I have four extra wires that could go to these four buttons. My question is, is it very hard to set these buttons to do these functions? I'm assuming the wiring diagram was following MAME standard layout.

You'll have to excuse me if this is any easy question. I don't have all the software set up yet and I haven't installed a pinball emu yet at all. I know a lot of software will let you alter the keys, but I'm not sure what keys the 7 and 8 buttons for each player are.

Hope this makes sense, any help is appreciated.

thanks!

hi, iv actually just finished wiring my CP i used an IPAC2 though, but from what iv read in the forums you can reprogram the 7 and 8 buttons to be pause and exit, even though you dont need them, because IPAC has a shift function where you hold player 1 start and press either player 2 start, up, down, left, or right, and you really dont need 7 or 8 buttons per player. The IPAC just comes labled like that so its easy to hook up for people like you and me, lol ::) IPAC is the only one that does that, ive looked at the keywiz models and you have to program every button. If im wrong about anything? please correct me. hope it helps

The Keywiz also has a shift feature called a Shazaam key which is a seperate button that allows you to use any button on your control panel for an alternate function.

On an Ipac it really doesn't matter what you wire your extra admin/pinball buttons to, so the leftover P1 button 7 and 8 and P2 button 7 and 8 can be used for Pause, Esc, and whatever buttons you set for your flippers.  The programming software that comes with your Ipac is very easy to use and you will realize that anything can be mapped anywhere you want using it.  Hope this helps...

Awesome, sounds like it won't be too hard to figure out.

I'll probably still use the pause/exit buttons even though the shift thing is there - I've already installed the buttons and may as well wire them up.

Thanks guys!
