Check EBAY for similiar deals. Not sure how good it is. But Ebay is always good to check.

$50 is a pretty good price.

If you look around hard enough though, you might be able to find a 1ghz-ish sytem for free from someone who is upgrading.

Thumbs up from me too...

If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

I checked on Pricewatch - 256M of non-branded PC133 is $23 (but faster DDR PC2100 is $17).  The least expensive motherboard combo is a Duron 1.8, it's $86, but faster than the T-Bird.  ASUS makes good boards.

Sounds like a good deal, as long as you'll be satisfied with a T-bird 1Ghz system (pretty far below entry level standards nowadays, but it should perform pretty well, I used a Pentium 200 for years).

what about this:

ASUS P3B-F rev 1.03 with manual
Intel P3 450MHz with retail fan. 512k L2 cache and 100MHz external bus speed

he says if i buy the first deal for $50, he will throw these in for $20, what do you guys think? should i get these? will these be good in a cab? i know its only 450MHz, nut it has to be worth $20 right. I donthave any spare money to bethrowing around so i will only add this if its worth it.

oh and he says if i buy everything for $70 (shipped) he would throw in this:
                      socket A mobo (jetway 663ASPRO).

Josh - what do you have now, what do you need.

Do you have a main PC and just want something to throw in the cab?  Do you need a main computer and a cab PC?  Do you want an upright and eventually a cocktail cab also?

The first T-bird system is decent for emulation.  It should play most games pretty well, but you'll probably want to use an older MAME for everything except the newer titles that aren't supported in the older version.  Not bad for $50, but if you want the newer (not newest that are unplayable on anything) games, you might be better spending around $125 for something like a Sempron 2500.

Like I said, I had a Pentium 200 for MAME.  It would play the early 80's games on an old version of MAME.  A Duron 650 was much better, but still mostly just the mid 80's games and the early 90's games with some frameskip.  If you wanted to put the T-bird in the cab and keep this for web-surfing, I could see that.  No memory with that one, btw.

Not real familiar with JetWay, but what I have read was not favorable.  A google search turned up this (among others) but I didn't follow the link.

AMD Processor Support Forum > T Bird Athlons
its a Jetway 663aspro, not much info on the jetway site for it anymore as it's an old board but i'm pretty sure it only takes up to a 1200T/bird with the ...

Again - Decide what you want/need and go from there.  None of these seem like bad deals for used equipment, but they aren't deals that I'd be kicking myself if I passed on.

Just my 2 cents, YMMV.

The 450 combo for $20 is not a "bad" price, but I wouldn't buy anything that old anymore.  It's just too easy to talk to people you know to see how has older systems.  I could probably have 4 or 5 full systems of similar speeds in a week if I really wanted them.

And actually, I have 2 sitting under my desk right now.

If you want it, $20 is not bad by any means, but if you're willing to ask around, you could probably get an entire working system for nothing.

easily, if you have 256mb ram minimum.
technically it's 128mb, but I haven't had much luck with under 256.

both would be noticeably faster than the 1ghz Tbird IMO.  Even though the duron/semprons are the "low end" AMD chips, either one of those would be a decent upgrade from teh 1ghz assuming you can get them for a similar price.  If it costs you more than $10-20 bux more or so overall, I'm not sure if I'd do it, since you wouldn't likely gain a lot of games or pure speed with the upgrade.  If you can get them for similar price though.. go for it.

ok i ended up buying the tbird 1GHz w/ mobo, and 256mb memory, i think it would do well in a cab, cause i got an extra 128mb and 64mb chips a can add to it. now im not sure but i think i will run windows xp pro corp edition ;D in it, unless that wont work with only 1GHz? and i have all the other parts needed to make a compuet besides the case im looking on newegg now. is this case any good?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811147007

its only 9.99 shipping instead of 15.99 so thats why i like this one, its only a low end 1GHz cpu so why would i need an expensive case?

The +12Volt Amps are a tad low on the Power Supply, but will probably work fine for a T-bird.

I don't even intend to use a case when I put a PC in mine. Just mount it all to a board (or a piece of sheet metal), and stick it in there vertically (kinda like a blade server). That way I can put a Neo-Geo, a CPS2, and a PC all in one cabinet, and still have a slot for swapping out JAMMA boards.

I would say if you're not in a big hurry, keep an eye on your local freecycle group on yahoogroups.

I've seen numerous computers/laptops be given away.

Just remember, to get them, you pretty much have to be the first to see them....otherwise the ebay kids get ahold of them. :)

the problem with 26 dollar cases is that they come with a reject for a power supply. Some of them will last a hundred years, others like a day.

otherwise.. Good luck
