I'm thinking of making a CP with the IPAC LEDs someday but I dont like the three color scheme.  Does anyone know if you can change the bulbs on these things and if so, what type bulb to use?

Why not save yourself the trouble and get Gamecab's LED driver board? You can choose your own LEDs, plus you get the ability to drive several more without having to worry about resistors, etc.

Or just hard-wire a different color LED to the harness.

BTW, you want LEDs, not bulbs, and the LEDs it comes with use either a separate or intergral resistor, so the replacement LEDs will need a resistor to make them compatible with a 5V input.

Simply pull the bulb out of the harness and re-insert a new one. Make sure the voltage is the same.

They're not bulbs, they're LEDs and I suspect you have to desolder/resolder, not pull out and re-insert.

Actually not. I just got my harness in the mail. You can simply pull off the LED from the connector and then add a new one. Just make sure you know which is the + and -.

What type LED is it?  Andy from Ultimarc mentioned something about an internal resistor.  Has anyone here tried this?

Part of me wants this harness just for the conical led holder.

Anyway if anyone can help me with where to find this type LED that would be great.

I think he means the resistor is internal to the harness, but you could try a 2.1V LED, worst case is it will burn out too quickly.  That or chrisindfw might have more info.

Be careful what you do there.  Contact Ultimarc to find out what the LED voltage and resistor values are.

Unless you use a driver board like the one from Gamecab, you will be driving the LED directly from the microcontroller.

And you really don't want to pull too much current through the microcontroller.

Maybe if GroovyGameGear could sell me a Blue Versa Ball replacement stick for my Happ supers I wouldn't need no stinkin lights.
