In the subject it says "side-art", but only 17x13? Do you just need a new logo design or a whole side-art print that will only cover a small area of the side of the cab?

Who will own the legal rights on the chosen image? I ask because while $100 is a nice prize, someone creating a great image would want to keep the legal rights to the image so that they could sell it on their own and make far more than $100.

Good question. The 17x13 is for the cocktail cab side art. It might be good to make the image 600 dpi, just so we could double the size if needed (maybe we would use it on the upright or on a banner).

Although if this contest works out we might I might do a second contest for the upright arcades.

Another great question. All image rights will transfer to Dream Arcades LLC. In exchange for the prize we own the image.
The main reason is it would dilute our brand if it started appearing on other cabs. How about this though, I will send several copies of the full sided side-art to the winner though for his/her personal use.

I almost forgot, the background should be 'rich black', or look good when a black background is applied.

Like all artwork, whoever pays for the design has legal rights to it, but is still allowed to use it in their portfolio to show other people.

You don't have to use the logo (the blue upright arcade on our website) at all. Although you can if you wish. Also, you can change the font. I wanted to leave as much as possible to you guys.

Are you expecting complete, ready-to-print submissions or would concept art suffice?

Lots of people have good ideas, but not everybody has the talent to back it up. Of course, it's usually talent that seperates the winners from the losers.

It doesn't have to be ready-to-print, but let's say mostly complete. If there are a few elements are not finished yet, it's not a big deal (especially for vector art). But the submitter should have it full sized and almost ready to go.

I would suggest that the winner gets one of you uprights when it's done. A $100 prize covers shipping with like an extra $11 to spare on your cocktails. The extra printouts although is nice. It's even nicer to see it on what it belongs on.... Anyhoo just a suggestion.

. I went back to submission #2 re-worked some things, drew up a cocktail version, threw in some classic 80's checker tile, added a slogan to get people to recall their youth, and changed the font. Good luck to all and thanks for the chance Dream Arcades...

This is interesting to see some of the different approaches... because it is quite a nice design challenge! I know I have a few ideas kicking around myself, just not sure if I can render them properly since it's more illustrative than what I normally create.

I don't think dream arcades was stated enough on that last one

well I figured that repetition gets the name in peoples heads so they can't forget it

, then when the "guys" are talking about cabinets...Dream Arcades pops in their heads becuase their "cool" friend just got a cab from Mike. Or the kids were playing and loved the "cute" little charater which causes a "mommy / daddy I want that...can I have one...please...pretty please" effect. Anyway, it sounded good to me

I have no useful artistic talent at all

but I do have ideas, and from ideas come suggestions, and thus I bring this up:

I'm noticing a large amount of pictures of cabinets and the website plastered all over the place in the submissions so far.....I just thought I might bring up that the contest is to design artwork to be stuck to the side of the cab, therefore a picture of an arcade cabinet is kind of moot, obviously it is in fact an arcade company

And while having the site in the sideart is a good idea, it doesn't need to be so prominent as to drawn out 3 times

Really all i'm doing is reminding the contestants thus far that this is for sideart, not a new logo, or an advertising campaign

....Think more along these lines, what would look cool on the side of your cabinet in your house

now as long as that idea is family approriate, all is good

good point jolly. that is why in my final submission I incorporated everything from cabinets to mascots to banners. That way it can be used in part or whole as Mike sees fit, and being that it is all in vector format it would be a cake walk to do

No, Dream Arcades is probably not registerable. We'll have to do like MAME room and call it Dream Arcades designs or something. For the side-art Just Dream Arcades in good.

I've had a couple of members ask me about extending the contest until after memorial day. I wasn't thinking of the holiday, as I'll be working

I'll go ahead and extend it to give everyone a chance to work on it over the long weekend.
The new deadline is Tuesday 5/31.

The only real difference is the stars, so you can even count it as 1 if you want.

BTW: I definitely like the darker blue better.

I cleaned up the "swishes" as they weren't as smooth as I thought they should be. I also did a couple more variations (fill in the outlines in some places, and flip the top swish)

I guess it would be midnight PST, but Honestly I probably will not even be online then. I probably will not take a look at the board until tomorrow morning.

here is what the logo could look like...

these have been all designed in a vector based program so can be made to any size without losing resolution (cos they are not photos).

they should stand out pretty well on black background!

Sorry for keeping everyone in suspense. We've been a little busier than we thought we would be. Also, I'm having a hard time picking a winner. It seems everyone likes a direct design.

First off, I have to tell everyone what a hard time we had picking a winner. At times the discussion became so heated we eventually voted by secret ballot, which ended in a tie.

In the end, we shrunk each entry and used Photoshop to digitally paste it on the side of the arcades. This helped us figure out which contrasted the best against the cabinets.

The winner of the $100 gift certificate is: Skybluestav.

No offense to skybluestav but I think it's really lousy that these other guys worked so hard getting their designs in and then someone comes along after the deadline and scoops the prize..I'd be pretty pissed if I had entered.

I looks to me like the runner-up prizes were given to remedy this but it's still not right...

The rules did state that we might extend the deadline. The reason we offered prizes was to get as many entries as possible. I had always planned on offering extra prizes, but I figured that we might extend the auction or even have two winners, so I was trying to level set expectations.

Well I just got a bad taste in my mouth as I watched it unfold.

If you hadn't given out those runner-up prizes I think things would've gotten ugly. As it is none of them are going to say anything.

Also you stated the contest was for BYOAC members and the peron who won joined the board AFTER the SECOND deadline...now that's not right.

and who exactly are BYOAC members? because I joined that day makes me a non-byoac member? (my first account when i first joined this website its about the same time as u joined, check for a member called tzatziki)

and whats your problem anyway? Mike replied to you that he had stated in the rules that he could changed the deadline, and also that he had Private messages from other members who wanted to have a go!

Mike also gave out of his pocket prizes nearly to everyone...

Well it just looked as though you joined the board to enter the contest, as you had to be a BYOAC member to do so. But I see that you are actually building a cabinet and no one else seems to have a problem with the way it went down so ignore me.

For your Cocktails, why not just take a Midway style overlay and put your logo on it in place of Ms. Pac-man or Galaga? You could do the same with CP overlays. I personally don't like Side Art on a cocktail. Seems just tacky to me.
