"Delete this account"
« on: April 27, 2005, 07:01:52 pm »
Does the "Delete this account" option on the user profile screen work?  Could I really use it to make Maraxle no more, or does it only work for moderators or something?

I seem to remember that Viscious the artist formerly known as "Wizard of Del Rey" experimented with this feature.... hence the new name.

 ;D

But I could be wrong... please try it and confirm  ;D

If I try it, I will not be able to confirm as I will no longer exist.  I want to make sure it will be a quick and painless death.  I'd hate to pull the trigger only to get slapped in the face with a "this feature is only available to administrators" message.  That could leave me a broken man.

Seriously though, does it work?  And if so, does all my account info disappear?  What about old posts?

I would *think* that you could start a new account with the same name though (assuming it works).  Your whole account would be gone, so the name would be open.  You could just start over with zero posts.

Right?

Go ahead, put your tongue on the frosted flagpole... I double dog dare you.. ;)

Remember, it might take more than 6 hours to respond to something you say. ;)

Yes, the delete account for your account will work. You can delete yourself, but obviously not another account. If you do, the name on your individual posts will remain, but will list it as a guest account and not include any member information such as posts, avatars or contact information. The system will also prevent you from using that account memberID again if you wish to re-register. The admins can add you back in with the same username upon request (but there better be a good reason).

If a triple dog dare is not a good enough reason, then there can never be one.

Did Vicious delete his account again and have to add an "S"? ;)

Oh, that wasn't meant to be a "hurry up, mods."  It was more of a "pipe down monkeybomb, so I can get a real answer."  :)

And thanks for the answer.

Yes, I'm the forum member formerly known as Wizard of DelRay.  And no, no extra 'S', DK. ;)

sirwoogie:  I just have a quick couple of questions.  Say I wanted to have my old account back.  What would happen with the messages from both accounts?  Do they become combined or do they remain seperate?  And if I wanted to use the name I do now on my old account (under the name option in the Edit Profile) would that be possible?

It's not massively important to me, I'm just kinda interested in what's possible.

I can merge them into a new account, or one of the previous accounts. However, I'm unable to find an account with the name you listed. Neither 'Wizard' nor 'DelRay' produce results.

I'm like 99% sure that it was registered as wizardofdelray and I just changed it to Wizard of DelRay under the user name option.  Then again, it's been about 14-15 months since I made that account so who knows.  Anyhow, thanks for looking into that for me.

That account appears to be deleted. Admins and Mods do not delete accounts unless requested. I do not have an admin log on this one, so either it was requested, or the user performed the action. This merging would be much harder to accomplish.

That's cool.  It didn't really matter to me about getting my old account.  I just thought the idea of being able to do it seemed kinda interesting.  Thanks again.

sirwoogie:  Would you please delete my account?  Before anyone asks why, my reasons are my own but in a short answer, I just feel that the board really isn't what it was a year ago and that I have spent too much time frequenting the boards and not doing the things that are truly important to me.  I won't be the kind of person who puts other things ahead of his family.

Thank you.

There's a button for that.  Suicide button.  Push it.  Kills your account instantly.  You've done it before.  You see it?  The shiny, Shiiiiiiiiiny button?

Vicious,

To avoid any potential unpleasantries down the road, I would prefer if you performed this action yourself. Under your profile screen, go to 'Actions --> Delete this account'

We're sorry to loose a memeber of the forums. But as with everyone, it is your choice to participate or not. We hope you reconsider, but wish you the best.

Thank you for that.  I did enjoy myself here and got to interact with a lot of great people.

To those thinking this is some game or stunt, God forbid you ever have a family of your own.  And if you should, I pray that none of your children ever be seriously injured.  At some point in time people will have to realize that family is more important than anything else.  Period.

Sad to see him go :P  Vicious was a good guy, good seller too :)  Also, the kid and injury thing in the same sentence makes me think one of his kids got injured....but he didnt actually say it....the suspense is killing me!
