Repairing a Star Wars/Stun Runner yoke
« on: November 20, 2002, 12:53:21 am »
I just got my Stun Runner yoke today and unfortunately, it was damaged in shipping.  Part of the large plastic gear on the back broke off.  With that in mind I have four questions as I begin my repairs on it:

1) First, does anyone know of a way to replace/repair this gear.  I'm guessing I might be able to find a similar gear down at Home Depot, but I'm not sure.  Does anyone know where these can be found.  I looked at Bob Roberts' site and didn't see anything there.

2) There is a substantial amount of rust on the yoke.  What is the best way to take care of this (or is there one)?

3) What are people's experiences with the microswitches in these things.  I'm used to the click-click kind and since these don't do that I'm not sure if they are fully functional or not.  Is it easier to clean them up or just replace them?

4) Does anyone have dimensions for the enclosure that these yokes are mounted on.  I'm going to need to build my own out of my leftover wood from my cabinet, so if anyone has had a succesful time in doing this, let me know.

Thanks for all the help.

Just wanted to give this a bump up the list in case anyone can answer anything over the weekend.

The biggest problem is the gear.  It sucks that it broke in shipping, but the thing wasn't packed worth crap, so it's not a big surprise.  I've heard that people have found these before, but I'm having trouble finding where.  If I have time to get to Home Depot this weekend, I guess I'll give a look there.

For the rust I would use sand paper.  You wont get the original gloss but it does get the rust off.

If you find any replacement gears, please post your findings.  I have been searching high and low and can't find any.  I was going to see someone on Monday to see how much it would cost to reproduce all the gears.  I can post the results if people are interested.

Oscar, you sure you don't want to take on this project?  I tried to get the guy at classicade, but he's too busy.
