Source for power button connector
« on: March 20, 2005, 11:38:00 pm »
I am getting ready to put my MB in my arcade cab.  Does anyone know what kind of connector I use for the two wires that I connect from the momentary switch to the two pins on the motherboard.  Is that a super small Molex connector?

I suppose I could buy a cheap pc case and cut one of the connectors out of it but that seems kind of expensive for one small connector.  Any idea where I might get one would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
KC

I'm sure you can either find a throwaway PC case (286, 386, 486, something old) to glean one of these from.  Failing that, a CD audio cable (back when CD audio had to be converted to analog and piped into the sound card) that's the right size would work.

Yes, what Peale said. Just take one from and old case and splice it into the button. If your building an upright and have the entire case in the cabinet you may have a unused one in there, look at the harness coming from the front of the PC case.

That will absolutely do it, but all that you really need is a two-holed jumper style clip that fits over the small pins at the front edge of any motherboard.  Most of us seem to have junk computers around, but I bet if you went to any shop that builds PCs, you could get one, probably for free.  After that, it's just a matter of splicing it to a standard microswitch pushbutton.  Plug your PC into a Smart Strip or Port Authority Mini Power Minder, and voila!  1-button powerup solved.
