SlikStik Aluminium Spinner Top Colors
« on: March 01, 2005, 02:45:24 pm »
The primary colors for my arcade are red, black and dark grey.  I'm finding that I've got too many shades of red right now and I was curious if anyone has tried painting the SlikStik Aluminium Spinner Top?

I currently have the red aluminium top and it looks like a muted red rather than the bright red of the Ultimarc T-stick.

Did a search but couldn't find anything relating to painting aluminium.  If I do paint it would it be best to spray it?  I'm thinking there has to be some bright red at an auto supply shop.

Thanks.

Painting aluminum can be tricky.  I don't know if the anodized surface that the slikstik spinner knob has makes a difference.  Anyway you will likely need a latex based primer meant for aluminum which I have never found in a spray can. Then you can go over that with anything you want.  Even so you may have trouble with it coming off after a while of use.  Just spraying enamel spray paint directly on it will likely have adhesion issues.
This is my experience with the subject, maybe someone else will have a better plan for you.
Also, know anyone in the auto painting biz?  I bet they could put a durable finish on it.

If you check around some paintball shops can anodize them for you. They tend to work with smaller pieces than automotive shops, and should be able to give you a decent price

or you could acid etch and dye it which would give it a textured feel and color of choice.
