connecting Tornado spinner to Opti-PAC
« on: January 09, 2005, 01:04:47 am »
I have two Tornado spinners that I intend to connect to an Opti-Pac.

As some of you might be aware, the Tornado comes with a USB/PS2 interface.

So to hook them to the Opti-Pac, I originally intended to swap out the interface boards for a pair of interface boards from OSCAR controls as discussed in this thread...

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,26186.0.html

However, this thread implies that with a little creative soldering, I could wire directly to the sensors on the factory Tornado board...

Has anyone tried this (other than CanStick)?

I was going to do something similar, although I was going to connect it to my hacked mouse along with my trackball. The computer in my cab is an older Mac that didn't have USB ports. I tried to get some info out of slikstik regarding this with no luck. They didn't want to give me any information and were a little condecending about what they called my "homebrew setup". I went ahead and bought a USB card and connected the spinner to that. I doubt I'll buy from in the future. I'm certain Oscar would have talked me through it and offered to sell me any parts that were needed to accomplish it. The only reason I bought the Tornado over one of Oscar's spinners was because of severe space limitations.

Don't get me wrong, the Tornado is a great spinner, I just wasn't blown away by slikstik's customer service.
