I bought the mounting plates just to make my life a little easier. But- By the time you mount the plate, add an overlay and plexi, the TB barely sticks out at all. So, I took off the top 1/2 of the TB casing, and mounted it without it. I routed out the bottom of the CP for the CP to fit in, then used a chamfer bit for the hole UNDERNEATH. This makes the ball sit VERY high out of the CP, and makes up for adding an overlay/plexi on top. Here's the key tho- I used washers as spacers when mounting the TB to the CP. The washers (I used 11 in total on each of the 4 mounting posts) work to space the TB down away from the bottom of the CP so that the wheels will spin freeley, as well as the TB not hit the CP itself. You can use the washers to adjust how high/low you want the TB to stick out of the CP. I also used nuts on the other end of the mounting screws to make up for the lost length in taking off the casing top. This works beautifully, and the TBs are AWESOME!!! Let me know if you need anything else...
