Button Configuration Dilema
« on: October 03, 2002, 04:34:50 pm »
I am looking for a list of all the VERTICAL games that require a 4-way joystick, and no buttons; a 4-way joystick, and 1 button; a 4-way joystick and 2 buttons; a trackball and no buttons; a trackball and one button; etc.

Is there a utility that does this already?  It would seriously help my decision making in constructing the control panels for my cocktail project.  My current thoughts are to construct 2 panels that have a 4-way joystick and 2 buttons and then 1 trackball panel, and 1 spinner panel.  I am just curious what Vertical games I'd lose if I went to 1 button instead of two.

Helped me, too. Unfortunately not all given values are right, but it sure does help a lot.

Thanks for the link.  This is the closest to anything that I have found.  I just can't believe that what we really need isn't out there already.  Also, you are correct it is not 100% accurate nor complete.

It should be complete, it builds directly from the MAME code itself, accurate is another story. >:(

Well, as far as I remember I have choosen File/Import/Mame executable and it worked, but I'm not that sure as it was quit some time ago. Takes some time to parsing through, but then you should get a complete list of all games.

At least it works under WinXP here!  ;)

It's definately not complete... Asteroids and Track & Field are missing, to list the two that I checked for specifically....

you realize that info comes from mame, and mame isn;t 100% accurate because the devs put hacks in.  Example, dotron, says trackball.  A good hack so one can use the trackball like an updown spinner BUT it gets listed in anything you output in mame so it is misleading.

I can do what you want, just because I dumped -listinfo into a database:)  hehe.
