Act Labs GS issue
« on: November 05, 2004, 12:42:22 am »
Although the Act-Labs GS is an older gun system, I managed to get ahold of one since USB versions are nonexistent or cost about $100 on eBay...after a little bit of coaxing I set up a computer with MAME32+ and got the first light gun working...however, i cant get the second player to pick up the second gun's input...is there any way to differentiate between the two? ???

Try using the Mame Anolog+ build of mame.
http://www.urebelscum.speedhost.com/

Has built in dual mouse support.

For Mame Analog+ to work with multiple light guns, there are a couple of requirements:

If you're using Windows XP, and the the device behaves like a mouse (aka you can shoot the desktop and your mouse cursor reacts), then you should be able to use several of the lightguns with Mame Analog+.  USB, Serial, and PS/2 devices should definetly work, and anything else (gameport?) may be less likely to work.

If you're using Windows 9x, and the device behaves like a mouse, AND the device is USB, then multiple lightguns should work with Mame Analog+.

If you're using Windows 2000 then you are out of luck.  Only the newest guns (the tv light guns) would work.

Disclaimer:  I've never seen or tried the Act-Labs GS, so I can't promise that they'll work even if they meet the above requirements.

OMG!  I just looked, and you're right!  The USB light guns are going for mad money ($120?!?!?):

Thanks for the help, but the GS uses the joystick port, so in order to use it, I enable the analog joystick settings (plus the mouse settings just in case  :)) Unless Analog+ allows u to use th esame joystick i don't know if thatll work...

Hopefully Actlabs will see this and realize that there is a demand for PC light guns.  Hopefully the other posts are correct in that Actlabs will release a new version of the PC gun soon and put an end to the high prices!!!!!
