Need help with coin mech
« on: August 18, 2004, 02:03:40 pm »
In a bin of old metal parts I found two coin-mechs. I bought the parts for 2 euro each (~$2)

Since I do not (yet) have a coin door, I don't know if the coin mechs are useable at all. However the cheap price I could not resist (who knows I can use them after all!)
A few questions:

1. I tried to figure out where I should fit the microswitch (no success), how does this mech trigger the 'insert coin' signal? Or is it a 100% mechanical switch?

2. Is this coin-mech compatible with a coindoor, if so what type?

3. The currency is 1 dutch guilder and 5 dutch guilder coins. These coins aren't available anymore since the Euro coin is introduced. I figured out that the mech uses some sort of weight to determine where the coin should go. Is it possible to modify the mech to use 50 eurocent coins (or better: BOYAC tokens) ?

I added a picture of the coinmech. On the mech is a small sticker with the text "Royton Oldham England" and  "Coin Controls". Google resulted only one german discussion forum topic that was no help to me.

Help is greatly appreciated!

1.  The microswitch attaches to the coin door not the coin mech.

2.  Depends on the door, but should fit on a lot of modern doors

3.  You might be able to "adjust" this mech by inserting the coin you wish to use and look where it gets caught up and either adjust any screws or you may have to bend or cut the metal to get it to work.  You might also have to remove any magnets that might b e causing the coin to get stuck.

The switch get mounted to the frame that holds the mechs, so you will not find it.

Looks like a standard size mech, it should fit most doors (maybe not some of the older games)

Try your new coins and see if it comes through. If not there are a few links in this forum that tell different methods of modifying the mechs. I read one yesterday that explained with pics: http://www.miavio.com/HappILMech.htm See if this helps, if not I am sure someone around here can help....
Good luck, Patrick
