CP Layout / Robotron and Centipede Measurements?
« on: July 19, 2004, 03:51:05 am »
Since this is my first post, "Hi there" to everyone! My project is a CP to play my two favorite games with, Centipede and Robotron. It's still in the design phase - does anyone have any suggestions regarding the layout? My concern is to make sure there's enough room to not bump the joysticks or player start buttons while using the trackball. For reference, the yellow gridmarks are 1" apart.

Also, I'd like to duplicate the measurements of the original arcade machine controls if possible. Does anyone know exactly how far apart the Robotron joysticks were, center to center? Or the measurements of the Centipede controls?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Ten inches on the Robotron sticks, if I recall correctly...

I would try the joysticks on the left, trackball on the right. The button somewhere between the joysticks and the start buttons top center.

As far as I know, this is correct- the Robotron sticks are 10" from the center of each. I think I asked the same thing quite a while ago and that was the answer I got then..

For advice, I'd make sure that the 2 sticks are centered, ie mark the center of the panel and go 5" either way

Look in the Artwork forum for the link to the vector artwork website.  I vectorized a Centipede control panel overlay a while back and it will give you all the relative dimensions you will need.

Thanks for the tips! In order to put the joysticks on the left (something I hadn't even thought of!) I'll have to make the box 2" wider, but it does make more room for the trackball.

The Centipede CPO is beautiful, Jakobud! Now if I can just figure out one of the measurements, I can compute the rest...

Dave
