Speaker cord too short
« on: July 03, 2004, 04:24:57 pm »
I'm sure I'm not the only one that has run into this problem.  I have some Logitech Z-3 2.1 speakers.  I have cut the speaker holes and placed the speakers where they will mount.  The cord that runs from the subwoofer to the speakers is too short.  I have pulled the cord about as tight as it can get and it does not reach the plug-in port of the sub.

I could build a little stand for the sub but I would like to have more slack in the cord as I'm not sure how far back the tv will go and that may shorten the cord a little bit.  Besides that, I would prefer to leave the sub on the base of the cab.

Here is a pic.  It's hard to tell from the angle but the cord needs to be about 4 more inches just to plug it in.  Like I said before, I would like to have some slack in the cord and not just reach the plug-in.

Take a close up of the plug or socket.  Alot of people on these boards know where to find things, so if they know exactly what there looking for, they may just find an extension for you...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Just slice in extra speaker wire to the satelites.  From the pictures I have been able to find online, it looks like they are just plain speakers, volume controls are seperate.  If you cut the wire to the satelites, it should just be a pos and a neg wire in there.  Just add however much length you need.

I'll probably try this if no one knows of an extension cord.  It seems like it should work just fine.

This is what I ended up doing.  Worked great!  Thanks.

I cut mine so that I could remove the main board with volume control, power button etc. out of the front right speaker.  Then I had twist and solder each wire back together again.  I'm sure you could do the same except extend the cable instead...  That thick cable has about 11 small wires in it you could just use some 20 gage (or so) wire to extend it.
