Hi,
i had decided to use thinner wood and off-set the groove for the t-mold. This seems to work fine. as it covers joins.....
>
i planned on covering the side panels (see pic) with plexi/lexan to protect the artwork. the t-mold will fit snuggly with 2mm plexi/lexan covering........... but now i decided to price up the plexi and its gonna wap

It's the risk factor that would put me off. One scratch and you've wasted a lot of money.

But if you're skilled (and lucky!) enough I'm sure the end result would look good.

I personally think it's not even worth the trouble.  Covering the CP is one thing since it gets a lot of hand contact but the sides is not in that same type of danger.  Also, it may look a little odd.  There are alternatives to protect side artwork that's a lot easier and cheaper.

ok - but ive already got the t-mold track cut out..... and the t-mold put on will have a 2mm overhang

should i get some 2mm wood (does wood come in 2mm?) and stick that on? and then get the artwork stuck on over that? or re-do the whole top half of the cab - which i dont really think my nerves could take.........

thanks for the advise so far........

I once thought it would be cool routing into the sides of a cab, like a poster sized square about 1\8 in deep, placing the artwork in the routed area and filling the square with a 1/8" peice of plexi.  Also that way you could change side art rather easy.

You could also get something called Mylar.  A think plastic sheet film that youd overlay onto the sides.  However... its expensive as well... and prolly less durable than plexi.
