The hacking of a 49 way.... the cable
« on: June 17, 2004, 02:44:37 pm »
I FINALLY found a good cable to work with a sinister 49 way controller!

I got Daves 49way controller (works GREAT!) but I couldn't find any way to neatly hack it.  I couldn't find any cable ends that fit.

Well.. I finally took it in the basement and started looking at all the outdated crap... and I found it!

Find an old pre-atx power supply and cut off the power -> the motherboard.  Both sides (there where two) fit PERFECT!
Right number of pins!
Perfect size!
and the wire works great with Daves board.

Anyway, I now have a VERY nice and clean looking cable job... without crimping a thing!

Those are called an "AT" Power-Supply.  They have a pair of 6-pin conectors.

Sorry, I don't think I can take pictures.

It was BEAUTIFUL hack..

but I ended up using electrical tape and screwing it down on the underside of the control panel... because I just wanted to mount it quick...   And I didn't have any optioins at the time :)

Thanks for the heads up! :)  I keep seeing my two 49-way (one sinistar, one happs) sitting on the work table just begging to be used. :'(  I know I have an old AT power box somewhere around here...

I played with mine a bit last night.

I have to add a switch on top of my control panel to switch between straight scale and flat scale.  Sinister isn't as good with flat scale (it doesn't catch all 3 speed directions... only 2 in flat scale).  (the digitial -> analog back to digital doesn't work right... but with the scaled it does)

btw, I was a little annoyed that the sinister round top wasn't 1 1/2"... I drilled the whole and found it was JUST over 1 1/2"... so I had to route it back a little... it's not to clean cut right now...

but I have to make a new control panel anyway... So I'm just testing it now..
